The Duke and Duchess of Sussex today kicked off their 2019 working schedule with a visit to Birkenhead in Merseyside to meet local organizations that support and empower groups within the community.
Meghan was glowing in a perfectly lovely pregnancy look for the day’s events, which include viewing a new sculpture in Hamilton Square, meeting local vets and members of the Birkenhead Institute Old Boys, a walkabout, a visit to Tomorrow’s Women which supports women in vulnerable circumstances and wrapping up with a visit to the Hive, a spot where young locals have a safe place for leisure, building key skills and confidence building.
Meghan’s bump has grown since we last saw her, hasn’t it? She opted for a bold purple and red color palette today, which delighted many royal watchers. Meghan stuck to her old favorite friends Aritzia, Sentaler, and Stuart Weitzman to create the eye-catching ensemble.
Coat: Sentaler Red Wide-Collar Wrap coat
Heels: Stuart Weitzman Leigh 105 MM pumps in Red
Bracelets: Bar Collection Wide Ripple bracelet
Ring: I & I Crescent Moon ring
Earrings: Pippa Small Nosheen earrings
Dress: Aritzia Babaton “Maxwell” Dress
Purse: Gabriela Hearst Nina bag in brown leather
Love Meghan’s look today? We asked the team to come up with some of their favourite #MirrorMeg options:
What did you think of Meghan’s look for the first engagement of 2019?
Madison Mile says
Well, many of us wanted to see the Duchess Meghan wearing more color for her public appearances….and WHAM she gave us lots of color for today’s event!
I love the red Sentaler coat paired with the purple Aritzia Babaton dress. The combination makes her skin glow! Adding the matching red Stuart Weitzman Leigh pumps was a great way to keep the color palette going, while still looking chic.
The only accessory I’m not crazy about is the purse. I don’t care for the shade of brown or the shape. I know she didn’t probably didn’t want color overkill, but perhaps a deep purple or some sort of mixed pattern clutch with red or purple in it would have been better. All in all I love her look and the dress fit is perfect for growing baby Sussex!
Shersha says
Absolutely gorgeous from head to toe! I love this colour combo especially that gorgeous purple dress. Love that Meghan is giving women options that you can wear non maternity wear whilst pregnant and look fabulous and find clothes that fit perfectly. The dress and coat fit her beautifully. I agree about the shade of handbag, perhaps a more neutral colour or deep plum would have blended in a bit better but other than that she looks incredible.
Pam says
I love red and purple together and this is a bold and tasteful outfit. Really well done. I do agree with other commenters about the purse, but it doesn’t take away from the overall effect.
Danielle says
I hope we see a resurgence of that handbag with a white coat and green dress (a la her engagement ensemble) – that would probably become my favorite outfit to date!
Shersha says
I totally agree. The brown against the white and green will be gorgeous!
Laura B says
Oh that would be so lovely! She wears green beautifully!

I love the color combination. I don’t like the dress. It’s riding up and doing weird things at the neck and above her stomach. I also don’t like the raw hem, but at $49.99 (Canadian), it’s quite a steal. It’s another example of clothing being asked to do something it’s not meant to do – accommodate a pregnant body. I find Stuart Weitzman heels really comfortable, so am not surprised she’s wearing those heels during her pregnancy.

Oh, man, I am in love with that coat. The brown version she wore before was fine, but the red is a knockout (I also still like the grey Sentaler that Kate wore in Canada so I quite like the brand). The color combination was unexpected and great, and love that she went bold with the red shoes instead of nude. The purse is meh with the rest, but honestly I do not match my everyday purse to my clothes, either.

It seems she’s kicking off 2019 a bit more bold with her looks. Cow print shoes last week, a burst of unexpected color this week. I hope her confidence is growing!
Brenda says
I love the colour combination but the dress is way too tight and fits very poorly. The pulling and ripples are not a good look.

The Duchess looks terrific. Love the colour combination. Have to agree with lawmon about the dress, shape/style wise, but every woman’s body during pregnancy are all different, clothes can fall differently compared to shape. But this cant be helped and the shoes YES!. Love the bag, colour maybe but she still looks fantastic. Thank you for a great blog.

Wow! I love the color combination that the Duchess chose for her latest appearance. I always check out HRH’s footwear first, loving her selections of shoes. The red pumps are wonderful. I agree with others about the color of the handbag. It looks larger than I am used to seeing her carry since joining the Royal family. Maybe the size was necessary for pregnancy needs?
I have written before to thank you for this website. But, please do allow me to thank you again. Your lightning speed updates on the site after an appearance by the Duchess are stellar. Also, I know I won’t have to sift through gossip and sniping about her. You write objectively, honestly, and with heart. Thank you so much.
She and the Duke look very happy, and she’s a radiant mother-to-be.
Most Sincerely,
Melanie Carlin Battle

We have got some vibrant colors, ladies! Saw this early this a.m. on Daily Mail. I love the color combination! Not so much the handbag. Is it brown? The coat is a winner, but the dress is ill-fitting. I agree with the comments that it appears to pull around the neckline. The skirt seems too full or too long or something. Not a fan of the messy hair, but again love the colorful MM!

I think this outfit is a perfect example of Meghan’s use of clothing to communicate and connect, particularly the colours she chooses. The red/purple combination is the colour of the charity they visited “Tomorrows Women Wirral ” (and red the colour of Liverpool football club I think?) I’m reminded of the green outfit in Ireland for example, and also the “names” of many of the pieces (eg that infamous “husband” white shirt).
I think this and her pregnancy goes a long way to explaining her often poorly fitted outfits, as in this case this coat (too big!) and purple dress – presuming these outfit choices are planned well in advance, they possibly thought it would still fit now?
I think it’s lovely that extra depth and meaning beyond fashion that she brings to her public profile, and demonstrates so well her intelligence, thoughtfulness and kindness.
She really can carry off these bright colours (so effective in grey winter) but can’t forgive the colour of the bag – lovely bag, but clashes in a bad way!

Meghan has certainly come out of her navy blue-black trend for this vibrant look which sits well with her pregnancy. Gorgeous coat and shoes and, yes, the purple dress appears a trifle ill-fitting but overall her look is great and so different from her previous wardrobe.
Agree about the bag being not quite the right colour and I would have liked a sleeker style with her hair. Stud earrings don’t overwhelm her.
But overall she is stunning and absolutely glowing on a cold winter’s day.

I normally love Meghan’s looks – she always looking stunning, but I’m not huge fan of the fit of this outfit, I feel like it’s a response to people always criticizing her for not wearing bright colours, like Kate (while Meghan looks absolutely radiant in neutrals, which bold colours tend to suit Kate more)
