When we compiled our list of Meghan Markle’s 10 Fashion Rules, the first thing on our list was the white shirt – although we rearranged the feature, pushing the white shirt to no. 4 on our list, there is no denying that Meghan loves a good white shirt.
In our own shopping experiences, we have learned that there is a difference between a shirt and a good shirt – one that is soft, falls in all the right places, tucks in as well as it untucks, and maintains its shape wash-after-wash. We are big fans of high-quality craftsmanship, and brands that specialize in that one perfect item. Frank & Eileen, the LA-based brand that designed Meghan’s effortless linen shirt (and Harry’s effortless brushed cotton shirt, too!) specializes in just that – the perfect casual-if-you-want, dressy-if-you-need button up shirt.
Frank & Eileen launched in 2009, the passion project-turned-successful business of Audrey McLoghlin. Audrey is an Irish-born designer who wanted to create the perfect shirt. In fact, they’re so perfect that they come with a “compliment guarantee.” Someone is guaranteed to say, “ooh, nice shirt” when you step out in the effortless Frank & Eileen styles.
McLoghlin is an Irish girl to her core, who became an LA transplant – an almost-reverse scenario of LA-born Meghan Markle and her new life in the United Kingdom. Both women share a love for a good cuppa tea by the fire, and a dog-friendly restaurant or beach. All of Frank and Eileen’s shirts are made in LA, but are delivered with a complimentary custom-made tea bag – the perfect combination of Gaelic comfort and LA cool. (We cannot lie – we want to order a shirt just to try the tea!)
Frank & Eileen was built out of love – Audrey named the brand after her grandparents, and their enduring love story inspired her to build a brand centered around family, passion, care and love. A happy company makes happy products, and we love to hear that Frank & Eileen’s team of “lasses and lads” consider each other good friends. An ethical company doesn’t just mean good quality products; it means good quality teamwork and a happy, healthy work environment, too.
So how does Audrey feel about seeing Meghan and Harry in Frank & Eileen shirts? “Seeing them in our shirts was an absolute dream,” Audrey said in their 10th anniversary newsletter. “We’re honored to be worn by some of the most well-known people in the world and so excited to see where F&E is spotted next!” Thanks to the “Meghan Effect,” Frank & Eileen saw an uptick in sales after Meghan stepped out in their signature style – so they’ve probably seen many Meghan’s Mirror readers styling their signature shirts, too!
The brand describes their signature white button-up styles as, “classic in all of it ‘s crinkled glory, a love child of prim and playful. The white shirt where it all began spans seasons and works for virtually all occasions.” We couldn’t sum it up better – perfect for any occasion, paired with anything from a ball gown to a baseball cap.
