The Duke and Duchess of Sussex attended the ‘Your Commonwealth’ Youth Challenge Reception today at Marlborough House in London, which marked the final wrap-up of the Commonwealth’s Youth Leadership Workshops.
Meghan and Harry met with young Leaders from around the Commonwealth who had gathered to discuss what they thought the Commonwealth would look like in 2040. It marked Harry’s first event with the Commonwealth since stepping into the role of Commonwealth Youth Ambassador.
If you wanted colour added to Meghan’s wardrobe… This was a brightly coloured yellow choice that you couldn’t ignore! We loved the slim lines of the dress, the bright colour that flattered her skin tone, the chic chignon and the summery style. Perfect for the event, and a home run for the Duchess.
We love that she gave a nod to an American designer on the day after 4th of July celebrations in the United States, and love even more that she chose such a brightly coloured frock to do so in. It marks the first time we’ve seen her publicly in a Brandon Maxwell design. Based in the US, Brandon has been styling Lady Gaga since 2012 so is definitely not a newcomer to the fashion scene. The dress is from the designer’s Spring 2018 collection.
Dress: Brandon Maxwell Sleeveless Boat-Neck Midi Dress

Love Meghan’s look today? We asked the team to come up with some of their favourite #MirrorMeg options:

Yay!!! Color!! I love it. Super sleek but fun and summery. The sleek chignon works perfectly with this look.
Danielle says
Wow! Not at all what I expected. Love the hairstyle and silhouette of the dress. Classic and modern cut. She’s simply stunning.
Solace says
Wow! Loved the dress and colour and it’s already sold out.

COLOR!!! YAY!!!!!! This was a home run in my opinion. Prob my favorite look since the wedding.
I LOVE it. Can’t wait to hear the Mirror Meg options!

Great dress…the color looks good on her and the cut is very flattering to her arms and shoulders. Her posture is really on point, too. The bun is nice…polished but not fussy or matronly like some royal updos. I hate the shoes, but tbh I ALWAYS hate plain nude pumps. Plain dresses like this to me scream out for a patterned shoe to add a little visual interest, but if nude must be chosen, then I like to see shoes that have some bit of detail (like the bows on the pair of black pumps that she wore the other day). But overall I liked the look and it was nice that she wore something not blush/beige.

Yes, glad to see a bright color and I think she looks great in lively tones, more so than the neutrals! I agree don’t like the nude pumps especially with such a vibrant colored dress! I would have loved another color like the magenta shown on the model or maybe a floral. Hair, check! Yay Yay, blush and beige stay away! (for now anyway)

I know I’m probably in the minority here because I just don’t tire of the blush and cream colors Meghan’s been wearing lately but I have to say that this bright yellow color is equally gorgeous on her! I’m a bit jealous because she can wear all the colors that I can’t but would love too 🙁 lol!
I real like the cut of this dress especially for such a bright color, a simple yet elegant cut was definitely called for here and imho really makes this dress work. I’m really glad that she paired this dress with a low bun, while her long hair is beautiful this bun just brought more “professionalism” to this outfit and highlights her delicate facial features. I’m glad that Meghan showed mercy on me today and didn’t bring a wonderful new purse with her 🙂 I already can’t get her Strathberry bag out of my mind, I don’t need another!
Lastly, I’m so glad that the naysayers are being proved wrong Harry and Meghan will continue to hold hands when they’re able too!!! This little bit of love and tenderness just warms my heart!

OK! For all those who have been bored by the pale pastels and neutrals, now you have Meghan in a beautiful yellow. This color and the cut of the dress are perfect for her. The nude pumps (as opposed to an open toe heel) were also a good choice.
The simple low bun with a middle part is exactly the right hairstyle choice for the ensemble as well! Bravo!

I love what she wore for this event!! Here’s a dress from Everlane that would also be a great Mirror Meg option:

Thanks so much for sharing, Kory! Definitely think that Meghan would approve of this one…. Especially seeing as it’s from one of her favourite brands! xo

I did want to make one more comment about today’s engagement…I’m thrilled to see Meghan really working on her posture! As I recall on her first few engagements she didn’t have the greatest posture, her head seems to jut forward and down but she probably saw a couple photos of herself and decided that corrections needed to be made and made they were today!! I’m a bit of a posture nut and slouching just drives me crazy as does the chin down, charging forward stance (that I think my sister does just to watch me twitch!) Anyhow, Meghan’s poise and carriage today was just lovely, keep up the good work!!

I clicked ‘Perfection,’ but didn’t really mean it. Apart from the color, the outfit (as a whole) is pretty basic. A navy shoe (which Kate wears often, so they’re not off-limits!) would be MUCH better; or a more substantial earring; or possibly a belt, would bring some interest to the outfit.
Her hair is TIGHT, but it stops her fiddling with it, so that’s good. Her posture is ‘bam’, and her arms are ‘bam’ too. If I had arms like that I’d take scissors to every outfit with sleeves that I won.
I think I got so psyched by seeing something that’s not flesh-toned that I hit ‘Perfection’ out of color withdrawal.

“own” not “won” – I’d love to win outfits though!
admin says
Haha, lawmom – Can we get in on that chance to win??? 😉
lawmom says
Is she eschewing the pantyhose rule, or has she found a shade that actually matches her skin tone? Either way, bravo!
I keep noticing things and repeat commenting – SORRY! I’ll stop now…
Lauri says
Oh please don’t stop you’ve got great comments!! It looks to me like she’s not wearing pantyhose today. I think in the future she will when attending events with HM but when it’s just her and Harry I don’t think she will. I felt bad for Kate during her first tour of Canada right after their wedding, it was pretty hot and there she was wearing hose, ugh! Personally I find it a rather silly rule but I guess it’s due to the generation that the Queen grew up in.
Karen says
Perfection . I think she is channeling a bit of Jackie Kennedy. Clean lines, great cut, wonderful color.
Iris says
Yayyyyyy color!!! Meghan can literally pull off any color she looks beautiful, would have loved a fun lip color maybe through and I agree with a post above maybe a patterned pump! Nonetheless, I love it!
Lisa says
Yes, yes, and yes again!!! I absolutely love this outfit. I’ve been hoping for some color and yellow definitely suits the Duchess. Those arms…major envy over here.
Lauri says
Lol Lisa! I’m side eyeing my arm weights as I type this! Maybe this will be the inspiration I need 🙂
