When you think about Meghan Markle’s signature casual style, it can be summed up easily – super-flattering jeans, enviable flats or sneakers, and a button-up shirt. You can’t blame a girl for creating an off-duty uniform. It makes getting dressed, and still looking totally chic, effortless and easy, whether you’re running errands, meeting friends for lunch, or attending a low-key business meeting.
When Meghan boarded the plane on Fraser Island, en route to Fiji, she showcased her signature casual style, featuring a white linen shirt from LA-based, female-owned Frank & Eileen. The ‘Eileen’ shirt has become a memorable piece in Meghan’s wardrobe. Audrey McLoghlin, the beauty and brains behind the brand, sees these simple, elegant, and effortless shirts as a fashion power piece – in a chat with Audrey, she shares: “[T]he button-up shirt is the armor I put on every day and go out and fight the fight. It’s the only thing that makes me feel strong and feminine at the same time.”
On sleeves: Fabric has a topside (pretty) and a bottom-side (not so pretty), so when you just roll a sleeve up like a donut, you see the underside of the fabric, plus it never stays up very well. My magic sleeve roll trick shows off the top side of the cuff, and stays up all day.
On the “French Tuck”: What’s great about the French Tuck is that it shows off the front of your jeans (so you would use this tuck when you have jeans/pants with a nice front you want to show off). It also makes your bottom half look slimmer.
On collars: We also love a popped collar to completely change the look/vibe of a button-up (you instantly look styled, versus having just thrown something on). When wearing your collar down, wet your hands a bit in the morning and scrunch the collar around her neck — that way it doesn’t look too perfect and it molds to your body/neck really nicely throughout the day.
