Meghan and Harry, also known as the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, made their first visit to their namesake dukedom, Sussex. The Duke and Duchess carried out a series of engagements in and around the area. The day began at Edes House, where crowds of people had gathered to meet Meghan and Harry. Inside Edes House, they viewed a copy of the American Declaration of Independence.
For their second stop, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex traveled along the coast to the University of Chichester’s Engineering and Digital Technology Park, which features cutting-edge technologies to allow partnerships with local industries.
Meghan and Harry then travelled to East Sussex to the iconic Brighton Pavilion. Following a tour of the building, they visited the nearby Survivors’ Network, a local charity supporting survivors of sexual violence. Their final stop was the JOFF Youth Centre in Peacehaven, where they met with local youth to hear about Takeover Challenge Day.
Meghan’s look was a shock to royal conservatives as she stepped out in a leather skirt from Hugo Boss. The look featured elegant and clean lines, balancing classic cuts with a pop of modern style. Meghan delighted royal watchers by donning an inexpensive silk blouse from And Other Stories, a brand favored by fashionistas looking for quality at a great price.

Love Meghan’s look today? We asked the team to come up with some of their favourite #MirrorMeg options:
What did you think of Meghan’s look for her first visit to Sussex
Madison Mile says
I LOVE that she took today’s look in a modern direction – while still being appropriately dressed in my opinion.
The forest green skirt, blouse and bag are perfect for Fall and using a cream contrast with the beautiful Armani coat the shoes makes it still feel light and modern. I actually have these Weitzman shoes and they are not only beautiful but very comfortable!
I love that she wore a leather skirt and since it is knee length and not too tight I think this was a great little style surprise for everyone. Another messy bun with front tendril – love it! 🙂
admin says
We loved the green colour as well. It’s a nice autumnal touch to her outfit.
Karen says
She looks fabulous and the leather skirt is a great choice. The messy bun has become a total bore however.
YCoh says
I too love the outfit, but I think the hair style was the right choice. Too sleek a hairstyle would have been severe with the leather skirt, her chignon has the right softness.
kari says
I am thrilled to see that it looks like she is returning a bit to her old style that I loved so very much. It cannot be easy to navigate a new culture, job, family with such scrutiny. I loved her outfit today.
Laura B. says
Yes! Meghan looking like Meghan! She was completely appropriate today (cut, style, hemlines), but with more of your own style coming through. I love it! Maybe she’s being able to relax into the style game a bit more now that she’s gotten through the first few months. I seriously can’t wait to see what she pulls out for the upcoming tour…
L. Davis says
I loved this look and adore bottle green on her. My only problem were the horizontal creases in her blouse. The kind of creases that come right out of a packaging box. Strange she doesn’t have a handmaid to iron (or check her look) before she steps out.
Lauri says
Oh my goodness, the fashion goddesses have smiled on us today!!! I absolutely love seeing Meghan in this pencil skirt, very modern and the cut and fit are superb!! I wonder if she raided Queen Letizia’s closet this morning 🙂 I like that she wore the cream Armani coat, the color against the dark green just makes the whole outfit pop and the nude/beige suede shoes just add another great bit of texture. She certainly seem to be finding her royal fashion footing and is inspiring me to up my fashion game a bit.
Dear MM, I wanted to let you know that I received my Gold Box and am loving it!!! So far I’ve worn the bar earrings, the star earrings and today am wearing the Love bracelet! Next Friday I’ll wear my tiara while looking at photos from Eugenie’s wedding. 🙂
I just order the bracelets Meghan wore today, can’t wait to get them!!
admin says
Lauri, we are so glad you love the yellow gold box!! We had fun putting it together 🙂
And yes, today’s outfit was a WIN in our books as well. We also loved some of the affordable pieces she threw into the look to really make it something we could add to our closets.

Lovely surprise on a Tuesday morning! I really like the forest/bottle green on her, it’s a colour that really works and is very versatile, especially in autumn, The cream and green work really well together, very reminiscent of their engagement interview! I hope then that dark green does not become the new black.
It’s very refreshing to see her championing less expensive brands, i.e. And Other Stories, hopefully this is something we will see more often. It would, however, have been nice to see some British brands. I know a lot of people do not see her wearing other clothing brands as a problem, and it’s not per se, but she now represents the Queen and the people of Britain when she undertakes royal engagements. On the one hand it is nice to see different brands being championed by someone with so much influence, but at the same time, wearing British and affordable brands does create a positive effect for the economy, which needs a definite helping hand at the moment.
This is absolutely not a criticism of her as a person, but my opinion of the DoS’s sartorial choices. As I have already said, it’s a lovely ensemble and one which would definitely work in other settings as well.
Danielle says
I must sound like a broken record whenever she wears green – I can’t get enough of it! A new favorite ensemble of hers. Can’t wait to see some MM options!
Also, can we talk about the amazing attention to detail in her coat and Harry’s blazer? The lapels are a perfect match! We must commend her sartorial choices, but also in how their outfits complement one another. Great detail!
Lpp says
I LOVE your site! I’m curious… is she wearing two or three of the Missoma bracelets? So hard to tell in the pics, and I see others are reporting three. Keep up the amazing work!
Nikki says
This was a miss. The coat and shoes throw off the green .. colors clash.. besides that as a animal rights activist like Meghan states she is why is she wearing LEATHER?? She states she doesn’t want Harry hunting and forbids him from going but then wears leather?? Hypocrite !!
Janelle says
The Duchess of Sussex has been wearing leather shoes and bags on her royal engagements. Why is the skirt then a problem? As for whether she is uncomfortable with hunting or an animal rights activist, (which can mean different things to different people), do you have a quotation from a reliable source?
OG SG says
She has been wearing leather shoes and carrying leather bags for as long as I have seen her. So I don’t really see a leather skirt as a deviation from that. I also love animals but I eat them and I wear them, too. And I don’t like hunting for trophy or sport either, because it is dumb and wasteful (although to be honest, has she ever SAID she is opposed to hunting or did some super secret unnamed palace source say it?).
Kayla says
I notice this website never posts comments against the outfit always praising her .. very boring !!

Hi Kayla (or Nikki?),
The reason your comments did come through is that they were marked as spam due to the invalid e-mail addresses you provided, multiple submissions from one IP address within a few minutes, and the comments being submitted with different names (we see comments from your same computer/IP as both Nikki and Kayla). We’d suggest leaving one comment which our Administrators will moderate once they are able!
We absolutely encourage debate on our site, as we’re sure you can see from previous articles. You don’t have to love everything Meghan wears! All we ask is that the debate and comments are kept respectful and constructive. You can read more about it at our Comment Policy Page: http://www.meghansmirror.com/meghans-mirror-comment-policy/

Perfection! This look reminded me of pre-Duchess Meghan, and I was totally here for it! She’s still appropriately dressed for the occasion, but the leather pencil skit gave her a wonderful edgier look. Matchy matchy gets boring, so I was fine with the shirt and skirt being different hues. I was happy to see the return of bracelets and multiple rings, as that’s something she clearly loves. Curious about the lack of earrings, though. Did she just forget to put them in or was it intentional?
SSM says
My guess is that it was intentional because she had on a necklace and stacked bracelets. I would also have skipped the earrings. It’s pretty uncommon to skip earrings which I think also adds a bit of surprise/your own touch when you choose to do it.
OG SG says
I love this outfit for the most part. As others have noted, green is a great color on her, and I like the monochromatic look with the different textures in the leather and silk. Love a classic trench. I have mentioned before that I absolutely HATE nude pumps, although with the jacket I agree they work here. I would just like to see SOME embellishment so they are not so boring, perhaps a pair like her black pumps that have a cute bow on the back. And I really like the purse but I think it is an odd choice with the outfit. I don’t really think satin is an “everyday” sort of fabric that one wears with a semi-casual outfit in daytime. Satin clutches/bags are for fancy events. So even though the bag is cute and the color is great, I think it is a strange choice for a daytime outing.
Jill Bray says
Interesting point about the bag being satin and carried in the daytime. I guess when you are a duchess you can make your own rules! I’m thinking she was going for a contrasting texture with the skirt. It’s a very cool bag.
SSM says
I also don’t care for the bag, as satin little poofs aren’t totally up my fashion alley. I do like that it was another interesting texture, and I agree that’s what she was going for. I wish she’d accomplished it with a pebbled texture leather or something similar, rather than satin during the day but that’s honestly my only quibble with what is otherwise an amazing outfit. And I LOVE it when she busts out some cute affordable pieces. Win!
Deborah Lorenzen says
I like this outfit and feel it is an appropriate look for the occasion (almost a business like) .I don”t care for the nude pump. The rust velvet Jimmy Choo heels she wore in Belfast a while back might have been a better choice and would have added a pop of color. Maybe a necklace as far as accessories? Or some jewel tone earrings? As for the Duchess wearing leather:; she has tons of suede and leather shoes so that is a moot point at this time. I personally don’t like hunting animals for sport; but it is a long time royal tradition and it comes with the territory. I’m sure she has come face to face with many taxidermy species when she visits Balmoral.
lawmom says
I like the outfit, but she needs to learn to tuck a shirt properly. I’m looking at you too, striped Ralph Lauren at Wimbledon.
Lauri says
I think that due to the fabric Meghan shirts don’t stay tucked. I have several silk-like button up blouses that always come slightly untucked, it used to drive my crazy but since I didn’t want to spend my whole day re-tucking them in I’ve learned to live with it.
Filaio Wfeda says
The color is nice on her – I really think the skirt, with it’s heavier fabric and structure is very flattering on her. I like the shoes with the outfit, however I felt the coat wasn’t quite right. I felt it didn’t look great with the rest of the outfit, but once the coat came off, it was a nice look.
Nat S says
Love the greens Meghan chooses and that coat is just perfect
Sam Butler says
It’s so sad that Meghan has decided to wear real lamb skin after being such a good role model for young women. Now she is just promoting animal cruelty.
