Today, Meghan and Harry made an unannounced visit to New Zealand House to sign the book of condolence on behalf of The Royal Family for the victims of the horrible tragedy in New Zealand.
It’s important to note that today’s events are not about the fashion – they are about paying tribute to the victims of a horrific tragedy and their family members. However, we are a fashion website and have made the editorial decision to cover this event much in the same manner that we cover any other memorial event. We will also be donating all of the revenue earned through our site today to an organization which can assist the family members of the tragedy.
Meghan’s look was refined and solemn, respectful of the tragedy with a nod to the country she and Harry just visited last fall. She paired her vintage coat with her Boh Runga earrings, which were a gift from Prime Minister Jacinta Ardern.
Coat: Black Bespoke Gucci Coat
Heels: Aquazzura ‘Savoy’ Pumps
Earrings: Boh Runga ‘Discologo’ Earrings
Clutch: Gucci ‘Broadway’ Clutch
Love Meghan’s look today? We asked the team to come up with some of their favourite #MirrorMeg options:
What did you think of Meghan’s visit to New Zealand House?
Deborah A. Lorenzen says
Meghan’s hair is looking very luxurious today! I love vintage clothes, especially from the 50s and sixties! This coat looks a tad big in the shoulders. The little touch of beading and sequins gives it an evening vibe. I wonder if the collar is detachable? Interesting choice overall.
Allison says
I think these are the Aquazzura SAVOY PUMP 105 (Not the Denueve) 😉
Ava Pittman says
The Duchess looks very dignified and Solemn which is exactly how it should be. I am so glad they both went and signed the Condolence book. Deep sympathies to all affected in New Zealand, my prayers and thoughts are very much with you.

Normally talking about what people wore is one of my favorite things, however, its a bit crass to talk about what someone wore to a funeral or similar memorial event.

Hi Lily,
Thanks for the note! We appreciate the feedback.
We 100% agree that today’s event was not about the fashion – it is about paying tribute to the victims of a horrific tragedy and all those who mourn them. However, we are a fashion website and made the editorial decision to cover this event much in the same manner that we cover any other memorial event that the Duchess attends. We will also be donating all of the revenue earned through our site today to an organization which can assist those impacted as we want to do our small part to try and make the world a better place in spite of the horrible events which may occur in it.
We hope you understand, and thank you for taking the time to visit Meghan’s Mirror and share your comment. It means a lot to us.
Have a great day,
A&C

Hi MM, is there anything your readers can do to increase your revenue today, that you plan to donate?
admin says
Hi Lauri,
You are too sweet. You made us tear up, thank you. 🙂
We have decided to double our donation today in response to a hurtful comment we received already (https://twitter.com/MeghansMirror/status/1108106457818361856), so that will go a long way. Hate is never the answer.

Your response was generous, in spirit and financially. I probably would have told them to pound sand, because I really can’t wrap my mind around someone whose articulates their disagreement to a post related to an act of terror with self-righteous bullying. Personally, I am glad for the frivolity of fashion to help balance the sadness and tragedy, which seems to pile up more and more. I can mourn for the victims and also admire Meghan’s shoes, because frankly, I need the latter to keep me from completely losing my mind from the terrible things that seem to keep happening.

whoever managed to take a break in their daily schedule and squeeze in some time to e-mail an innocent fashion-themed blog with the sole purpose of conveying a message of hate and unkindess, must be leading a very empty life. Don’t let them get you down.
BTW, I love this blog.

And we love you, Ilaria! Your comment brightened my day!

I wanted to commend you (the MM staff) for your comment and thoughtfulness.

As much as one can comment on fashion at a sad memorial like this one, Duchess Meghan once again proves to be a gracious and elegant member of the Royal family. I understand she was also thoughtful enough to wear the earnings that she was gifted during her Royal summer tour to New Zealand as a gesture to this sad event that happened there.
The detail on the collar of the vintage coat is beautiful, and of course works very well with the baby Sussex bump 🙂 The Black Aquazzura Deneuve Pumps are again getting great use and work well with the coat. She looks fresh faced and her blow out is glossy and beautiful as usual. Lovely ensemble for such an meaningful moment in her life with Prince Harry.
Pam says
It’s a good look. The coat has just the right amount of bling or embellishment on the collar and it’s a good length, plus seems to fit well. Hard to tell, but the sleeves look like bracelet length? Very sophisticated and refined for the occasion. I’m glad she paired the black clutch and pumps with the coat instead of nude color.
Lauri says
Thank you MM for this post. I won’t be commenting on fashion today but just wanted to say thank you.
Mary says
She looks lovely and appropriate for the solemn occassion. Has any designer confirmed who made her clutch and coat?

have the decency to spell the PM of NZ’s name correctly, please

Hi Meghan,
Our sincere apologies for the typo. Jacinda Ardern’s last name auto-corrected in our text editor, and our content editor missed it as well. We’ve corrected it now.
Thank you for highlighting the error!

Meghan and Harry’s appearance was a necessary and appropriate gesture.
Thank you MM for your coverage.
OG SG says
Her hair and face look fantastic…I have missed the lighter touch with her makeup. And I love love love the shoes.
On a more somber note, it is lovely that they took time to pay a visit to acknowledge the tragedy, rather than just releasing a statement. And it is a lovely gesture of this website to make a donation as well. What happened in New Zealand is so incomprehensibly horrifying that I still can’t even wrap my mind around it. I have been so, so impressed by the PM’s leadership during this time.
Sara says
It’s Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern, I think auto correct got you there.
Laura B. says
Thank you for your thoughtful coverage of today’s event. And even more for your graceful and loving responses to descent. I began following your blog because I adore the Duchess, but I’ve stayed because I adore your coverage. Your wonderful energy comes through the internet loud and clear! Stay the loving course MM!

Lovely topic to cover, regardless of fashion Meghan and Harry have highlighted a great event which will not only, hopefully, stop similar attacks in the future.
Thankyou for also playing a part and highlighting this taboo subject. Meghan looked on point as usual – there is no difference to coverage on someones outfit whether you are a newspaper or a fashion blog. Coverage is coverage so hate is not needed and I think you have shown respect and love by covering it today.
Christine | Editor of Meghan's Mirror says
Eleanor, thank you for your sweet reply. We really appreciate it!

I think her look is very nice but too much for this kind of event. The coat is luxurious and embelished, her hair on the shoulders, and not long ago when she was gues to a baptism, she was very sober, with her hair caught and a very simple black coat.
