Meghan wore a tailored trench dress from Banana Republic, a favorite affordable brand another many fashionistas. She paired the dress with simple nude suede pumps for a streamlined, simple, elegant look.

Love Meghan’s look today? We asked the team to come up with some of their favourite #MirrorMeg options:
What did you think of Meghan’s look at Johannesberg University?
Love love, love! The warm color on her deep autumn skin tone, the fit, the length, weather appropriate, business appropriate and thus event appropriate. Minimal jewelry keeps the look simple and chic. Meghan’s hair looks glorious. Her skin is glowing. The windblown hair pictures almost threatened to overshadow the cause she’s promoting. Meghan looks chic, elegant and gorgeous.
The dress also comes in a warm ivory and in tall (40 inches) for those of us who would prefer it be knee length. As of 7am EST, the dress was sold out in both colors in the EU, UK and Canada BR sites. US site had it in ivory in all sizes. I am in France, thus same time zone as South Africa and the UK, so I receive Tour news earlier than you guys. I was certain I’d find the dress on the US and Canada sites since it was still early there. When it was also sold out on those sites, I came to the conclusion that people in different time zones as far as the middle east and Asia must be ordering from overseas, which explains why the dress sold out barely three hours of publishing..
Something I noticed today. Meghan seems to be wearing stockings. If I’m correct, then these are the most amazing quality stockings known to men and they must’ve created a color tone specifically for Meghan. Please let me know if anyone can detect stockings on Meghan.
On a non-fashion related issue, I noticed formal protocol in the pictures of this event and it confirms what I suspected a few days ago when I saw Harry being received on the red carpet when he met with the president of Angola. I noticed the people in Harry’s and the president’s company standing with their hands slightly clasped in front of them as seen when one is greeting a British Royal. I noticed the same postures in those around Meghan today, except one ill-mannered man with his hands in his pocket — never to be done by a man. Ever..
What I had suspected since Harry’s red carpet reception in Angola is that the relaxed protocol does not apply to formal visits with officials or at any type of formal meetings. I expect we will be seeing Meghan and Harry being received formally by the SA president later today. Can’t wait to see what Meghan will wears.
Definitely no stockings.
Another tux dress which is a classic Meghan pick, and one which is looking good to me. The fit is is smooth enough to slide over the curves which are disappearing post-baby, and I like the length which I find youthful without revealing too much. The v-notched-collar is a subtle businesslike touch, just right for giving a speech, while the warm neutral tone preserves femininity. A lovely balance. It’s functional and pretty plus student-friendly for the context of the engagement.
While I think it fits and sits just fine, my one quibble would be that I don’t know how far Meghan can go with her drive for a budget wardrobe before it becomes disrespectful and for my money she’s a bit on the edge here among senior university staff. And I’m not always comfortable with a budget dress combined with relatively pricey pumps as the message becomes a bit mixed. It’s a very tough line to draw and as this is only Meghan’s second tour I think she’s doing brilliant overall!! Love both the bracelet and shoes btw, and hair looking glossy and perfect today.
This is a great look. I liked her previous version of the trench dress, but it was too big and looked a little sloppy. This is a much more successful deployment for me because it looks neat and cool and fitted…interesting given that this is a budget dress and the other was far more expensive.
I will ALWAYS hate plain nude pumps, though. They are so boring. Like, I imagine how great this look would be with a pair of leopard print pumps and I regret the lost shoe opportunity, lol.
STUNNING! That’s all.
Have you found any substitutes for the Almedra Evil bracelet or necklace? Something under $200 perhaps.
I love this dress on the Duchess. The shoes yes!
I loved this dress on Meghan. Meghan wore a lot of budget pieces on this tour out of respect for the poor and to be a little more relatable to the people she met. What struct me most was she didn’t hide away and loose the baby weight. She is doing it in front of us. She is living her best life and haters be damn.
I agree, she is losing the baby weight in a healthy way. Also, all women lose their weight at different times when they are nursing. While my friends were nursing an dropping weight, I still held onto mine, but didn’t care because I knew that all bodies differ. A year later, when I my baby weaned, the weight just fell off. I think she’s killed it on this tour.
