Beauty may be only skin deep, but a friend with makeup skills is forever. Meet Daniel Martin, Meghan Markle’s good friend and makeup artist. He is now famously known for her natural beauty look at her royal wedding, but did you know they still get together for tea?
Daniel Martin began his career in the early 90’s in Seattle, where he learned makeup artistry at a Nordstrom MAC counter. Today, Martin works as a professional makeup artist, a Dior Brand Ambassador, and an Honest Beauty Creative Color Consultant. His makeup bag is filled with plenty of Dior and Honest makeup products, along with everything from L’Oreal to Lancome, Shisheido to Surratt.
Meghan and Daniel met in 2011, and worked together professionally on red carpet events, press junkets, and editorial campaigns. They quickly formed a friendship, which continues to this day. Daniel was a regular contributing blogger on The Tig, sharing his makeup and beauty advice on Meghan’s now-defunct blog platform. In a blog post featuring his favorite makeup picks, Meghan said of her makeup artist-BFF:
Getting dolled up requires hair and makeup. Hair and makeup requires a glam team. The best half of that equation is undoubtedly celebrity makeup artist, Daniel Martin. I love this man, and not in that industry way of saying you “love” someone as casually as you order your macchiato. I actually love this guy.
As a private makeup artist, he has worked with Michelle Yeoh, Jessica Alba, Jessica Biel, Elisabeth Moss, and even two of Meghan’s friends – Olivia Palermo and Priyanka Chopra. In addition to his career as an artist, Martin is one of the founding members of The Wall Group, a management company supporting “fashion’s leading creators” through bookings, endorsement, and sponsorship management.
Meghan asked Daniel to be her wedding day makeup artist via text message, complete with a bride and groom emoji. He spent the morning of her wedding with Meghan and Doria, enjoying breakfast and helping the two women “beautify.” The friendship and professional relationship didn’t stop there – Meghan has called upon Daniel to do her makeup for numerous royal events since then, including the Prince of Wales’ birthday celebration garden party, her first royal event following the her wedding.
Today, Daniel visits Meghan at her royal abode for tea and avocado toast, where they can catch up like old friends. Royal watchers were delighted to catch a glimpse at Meghan’s London life, featuring Soho House tea pots and Fortnum and Mason truffles. We imagine they share beauty advice and tips, and gossip over the latest skincare trends and favorite moisturizers. We like to think that Meghan used the recipe she shared on The Tig’s #BestBite feature in 2014. Check out Meghan Markle’s Avocado Toast recipe, inspired by NYC restaurant Little Collins:
Take one fresh avocado gently hand blend it with a sprinkle of feta cheese, a dash of red chili flakes, a squeeze of lemon, and salt to taste. Scoop onto a toasted slice of multigrain bread, and finish with a dash of pepitas for that “nom nom” crunch.

Hi! You’ve got such a great site! I really enjoy reading your posts. The post about Daniel Martin makes a reference to his favorite beauty products which he used on her wedding day. But I didnt see anything listed. Is there a list?
Thank you!

Daniel is a constant name dropper when it comes to Meghan Markle. In his thank you for birthday wishes, he only named Meg by name. Daniel you don’t need to flaunt your friendship. Be secure in who you are and leave famous names off your social media.
