With the Tig having shut down, we were saddened that several years of archives – including amazing tips & IDs from Meghan herself on her fashion choices – would be lost to the depths of the internet. Luckily, we were able to track down the archives which we will share with you in a series of Tig Throwback Thursdays posts to cover even more Meghan style & fashion.
Today’s TIG Throwback Thursday post is about Meghan Markle’s Travel Essentials, an article that she shared on The Tig in March 2016. Meghan shared the importance of self-care while travelling, saying:
If you’ve been tracking my social media of late, you’ll notice that not a week goes by without me finding my derrière on a plane. Yes, it’s fun, and yes, it’s purpose-driven, and yes, it can sometimes feel quite glamorous; but, jet-setting (for work or pleasure) comes with its own set of complications. The foremost issue is self-care. It’s easy to run yourself ragged, hopping from one locale to another, sometimes feeling homesick, and other times just feeling plain-old sick (tummy, head cold, you name it). Here are some surefire tips I have picked up along the way that keep me feeling A+ when I’m traveling.
Wipe It Down
So what are Meghan travel’s tips? Meghan shared that while she’s not a germaphobe, she also don’t like to get sick while travelling (who does?!). She uses hand wipes or a travel sanitizer spray – Meghan mentions Murchison Home’s Travel Safe Surface Spray as a favourite – to wipe down everything (she specifically mentions the little TV, the service tray and all the buttons around your seat).
Just a Dab Will Do
Meghan’s second trick actually comes from… Leonardo DiCaprio. Yes, apparently so. Here is the story Meghan shares:
A dear friend of mine once told me that Leonardo DiCaprio gave her an excellent travel tip. I know – I could have written an entire post on this conversation alone. What is it, you ask? Evidently, he said that to avoid getting sick on planes, he puts a little Neosporin on a cotton swab and coats the inside of his nostrils. Not only does it create a barrier for germs, it also lubricates the skin in the nose. That’s important because when the skin cracks, germs can come a running in, so the coating of the Neosporin doubly protects you. Now before you start calling TMZ, I cannot say 100% that Leo said this, but my friend is a good source, and regardless, it’s a great tip. Try it!
Pack a Portable Hug
A third thing Meghan does to embody self-care while travelling is packing a warm scarf or cashmere blanket with her. Throwing it in your bag is a surefire way to be sure you’ll always be comfortable, warm and comforted by the feel and smell of home. Meghan shared that “...This has become invaluable to me when catching some Zzzzzs on a flight, or feeling swaddled in a hotel room.” Meghan’s recommended scarf for travel? Madewell’s Cityguide scarf, which covers New York’s travel map.
Go Pro
Meghan shares that she always travels with a high strain probiotic. Not only does the probiotics help keep your gut health in check, but Meghan says that when combined with “hydration like you’re dying of thirst“, it actually helps her stave off jet lag from globetrotting travels. Meghan swears by Dr. Ohhira’s Probiotics.
Be an Efficiency Expert
Meghan’s next tips for a good travel experience? Efficiency. Meghan shares that a perfect travel folio – like this one from Stow (one she’s been seen with countless times that keeps all of your travel documents & necessities handy) – and an efficient piece of carry-on luggage are keys that will make you “feel like a frequent flyer… so you can avoid airport hiccups and can focus on the vacate part of the vacation.”
Let your Tummy Track Time
Meghan’s last piece of travel advice comes via her good friend Misha Nonoo.
My gal pal and designer extraordinaire, Misha Nonoo, once told me that if you eat on the schedule of wherever you’ve landed, you won’t feel jet lagged. I was skeptical at first, but as Misha shared, it’s your stomach that tells your brain when it’s feeling wonky. By simply eating a meal at the time the locals are when you land, you trick your brain a bit and stay much more on track, and much less cranky.
What are Meghan’s can’t live without travel articles?

Where did you guys find the archived articles? Are they still accessible to read? I’m so sad she shut down her online presence.

Hi!! I have been trying to find a more affordable version of her travel folio, I just cant find one that size (they are all bigger). Thoughts on where to look? I love how simple the inside is.
