Details emerged today about the September issue of British Vogue, in which Meghan acted as Guest Editor. The Duchess of Sussex shared that she wanted “to take the year’s most-read fashion issue and steer its focus to the values, causes and people making impact in the world today“.
In the special issue, focussed on female empowerment, Meghan interviewed former American First Lady Michelle Obama. The issue also features New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern (whom many will recall Meghan met while she and Harry were in the country) and legendary actress Jane Fonda. Meghan declined a photoshoot for the editorial event to shine the spotlight on the women she admires, rather than on herself.
We had several “images” of Meghan appear alongside the announcement about the September Issue. The first was Meghan seen browsing through a rack of clothing from during a private visit to Smart Works. She was seen wearing a vintage-inspired tweed dress from Gucci, accessorized with her Manolo Blahnik slingback shoes. The sleeveless dress featured a flower appliqué and ribbon detail, which was removable to create a versatile piece – and one that we imagine we will see repeated again in her royal wardrobe in the years to come.
The second was a glimpse from the campaign announcement video which was made available talking about the Force for Change campaign. Meghan, visibly pregnant, is wearing a budget-friendly jumpsuit from one of favourite retailers, Everlane.

The Dress:
The “Letter from the Editor” was penned by Meghan, and she was featured in a variety of the content in the magazine. We’ve attached the full pages from the magazine, which is now available, below.
What did you think of Meghan serving as Editor of British Vogue? Will you be picking up the issue?
Myla says
Do you know how those in the US are able to buy the September issue?
Christine | Editor of Meghan's Mirror says
Hi Myla! Barnes and Noble usually carry British Vogue – I would check with your local store!
Danielle says
This is so helpful to know, thank you!
Devon says
I purchased my copy from Newsstand UK. Someone from the SussexSquad linked it on Twitter. They sell to both US & UK. It ships 8/5/19.
Mia says
They are saying the Sept British Vogue is currently out of stock on both Newsstand UK and MagazineCafeStore. I believe they are out of stock on pre-orders. You can only leave an email address in order to get a notification if /when the issue becomes available for order. At this rate, it may have sold out online for the hard copy. Amazon allows purchase of kindle version for$29.+ In my area, Barnes & Noble sells British Vogue for about $10.99, but they get issues late, and they may not get particular issues in every month. So I don’t think there’s a guarantee I can get it from B&N, especially the longer time passes, because this issue is in demand. Unfortunately, I believe some people are greedily buying up more than one copy since this issue will become a collector’s item, and they can then sell copies for exorbitant sums on ebay, etc. That’s sad and unfair. Frankly, even the haters who endlessly criticize Meghan are buying copies, because they are envious hypocrites! I want my September 2019 British Vogue!!! Please can we find out other alternatives for purchase of the hard copy?
Karin van den Hoek says
You can also download the British Vogue app and purchase the copy that way.

I sort of wish that lesser known people had been chosen by the DoS e.g. maybe someone from CAMFED or one of the women from the kitchen she supported.
Meree says
That Gucci tweed dress is absolutely gorgeous.

I’m confused, why is a photo of her at Smart Works being associated with her Vogue guest editor cover? (Just curious, not trying to be mean! I love Meghan!)
Danielle says
She’s written an article promoting the organization Smart Works in the upcoming issue, I believe! She initially met with the EIC of British Vogue to discuss the magazine supporting Smart Works, and it transitioned into this amazing collaboration. So the photo was taking during a private visit of hers, and the organization will be spotlighted among the many causes in the issue.
OG SG says
There’s a story about the organization in the issue.

Thanks for such a great post MM!! Yes, I will certainly be buying a copy of this September issue, although I’ll have to order it from somewhere. The joys of living in a very rural community.
Wow this tweed Gucci dress is such a shocker, definitely not a dress I would have expected to see Meghan in. That being said, now I want to see her in it again if nothing else to better look at it. I think it’s the embellishments and soft color that’s throwing me off, not Meghan’s usual cup of fashion tea 🙂 but it is nice to see her try something different now and again.

This is amazing. I’ve been pouring over the articles, the photo, the women of change. This project – similar to Community Kitchen – is inspiring in that it is quintessentially Meghan. I love how she embraces her passions, like writing and advocacy, then channels it into something unique and regal (and I recognize that Anais Nin quote from her Instagram)! It’s all so her.
I also love – and feel the joy myself! – that she is living her dreams. We’ve all seen the photo of Grace Coddington’s memoir on her Instagram, and now she’s working side-by-side with her. How she’s loved Vogue and kept those tomes in her home, and now she’s the first guest editor for the UK’s September issue. She’s working with idols like Dr. Jane Goodall and influencing change, bringing up other women with her.
It’s special that we get to follow along with her projects and style because, in channeling them, we get to channel some of those joys and dreams for ourselves. Congratulations to HRH!

What a lovely tribute, Danielle, thank you. You’ve helped me feel I can be a part of the project just by buying the magazine and reading about these women. I think it is really ground-breaking to feature so many gifted WOC at this level of publishing. Meghan is doing some astonishing work here. Good on her!!

This is *such* a great comment, Danielle! Thank you for sharing. xoxo

I will be looking for the issue. If it were just fashion (which I enjoy), I would just look at the mag online, but I really love the featuring of strong, inspiring women. In particular, I find Jacinda Adhern and Michelle Obama to be so personally inspiring to me, and I look forward to reading about the others. And I love the tweed dress, although the neck bow is not my jam.
Bertie says
I simply love that dress, the classic tweed sheath with its restrained lines offset by a flamboyant ribbon embellishment topped with a frou-frou flower. Very stylish and very Meghan. The Everlane jampsuit is just perfect for a maternity outing, and what fun to combine something low-key with that gorgeous Courreges jacket. Delighted to see the Aquazzura flats on another outing as well. I think the Vogue project is ground-breaking and a total credit to Meghan, up there with her Grenfell cookbook, from which I’m still enjoying aubergine masala! Thanks for a great post and updates.

Does anyone know when Vogue UK typically arrives in Canada? Thank you 🙂

Hi Meghan,
Still hasn’t arrived at my local store in Vancouver (Amanda here). UK magazines are generally about a month behind in my experience, so likely not in stores until well into September.
