The Duke and Duchess of Sussex made their first joint appearance at the Royal Ascot today.
They joined the Earl and Countess of Wessex in the third carriage in the royal procession.

I think she could’ve chosen a better hat to go with that beautiful white dress. I’m not sure if it’s the a-symmetrical shape but something is not right. The whole outfit is beautiful, don’t get me wrong. But she suddenly looks much older than she is, and I’m not sure why.
Cass says
These earrings come in 2 versions, I think she is wearing the smaller 750.00 version.
OG SG says
See, I am the opposite. I think the dress is meh, but the hat is FAB.
Lisa says
Yes. Hat 1 – Dress 0.
Cass says
I really like the hat too – she must be having the best time right now – shopping, picking out things, having things designed for her. Wow.
Imogen says
I think she looks older because she’s lost so much weight.
A. says
She used to be playful in the way she dressed & the jewelry she wore, like the rings, different stud earrings in each ear, etc. I get that she has to be less messy now that she’s a duchess, but it’s like she tries to be a whole different person, like there is nothing left that’s truly Meghan Markle.
Deborah Lorenzen says
I agree. Bring back the old Megs!
Cass says
I think the shirt dress is a style that is her.. also that boat neck. She may be more constrained now as Duchess, but there is some Meghan underneath. Also her loyalty to Birks brand jewelry… that’s not the royal family – that’s all her.
Eileen says
I totally agree. First outing when I saw white pantyhose I thought “Oh No”
Ali says
Love the hat, but not the dress; however, I don’t like the hat with the dress.
Kathy says
I was the same, I couldn’t see the dress and the hat together, liking them both separately. But now I had time to process, I like the full outfit!
I actually can’t wait to see some more casual outfits soon.
Cass says

Ah, what a nice ensemble Meghan chose for this occasion.
First, I know the hat is going to be a love it or hate item, but I happen to love when she wears hats that sit on the side of the head with swooping shapes and interesting details, so this is a win for me. The hair is perfectly placed for the hat as well, so there’s nothing in competition with it.
As for the dress, if you zoom in closely and look at the center waist detail, you’ll see the beautiful floral Givenchy design which sets this apart from your average shirt dress. The belt and clutch are very nice accessories for the dress as well.
On another note, this is the second more loose/flowly dress she’s worn this week. It could just be that she wants this style for warm summer days at events where there’s a lot of sitting, walking, and standing, or this is a style the Queen prefers – or…it could be what I suggested in my post on her Spencer Family Wedding Oscar De La Renta dress. Only time will tell if I’m right 🙂

Wow! just wow!! this is without a doubt a Royal Ascot hat and Meghan is certainly rocking it!! I love this dress and how the color is extending the wedding feel. The cut is simple but the embroidery at the waist brings a certain elegance. My only quibble is the belt buckle, the belt it’s self is fine but the buckle just isn’t working for me.
Karen says
What a lovely fashion recovery. Simple, elegant, and exactly what we expect from a royal. So happy to see her hair under control and what a great hat!
Jill Hillers says
The Duchess of Sussex is naturally beautiful. She is very lovely and nice in her white dress. Fantastic pic!
Tyra says
Hat is wonderful. The dress does not work with the belt and shoes. I get the look the designer was going for but it does not work as a finished look. Not sure the shirt dress style works for the event even with a different belt and shoes. Gorgeous fabric. Not a fan of the earrings.
simiyalalalala says
Yes, Meghan. What a vast improvement from the previous dress!

The hemline does not work on Meghan. It does not suit her frame/body type. Meghan needs to learn how to dress to accent her frame/body type instead of working against it.
Deborah Lorenzen says
Yes I agree, this type of hemline does not flatter her and draws attention for her thin ankles.

I don’t usually gush, but I am in love with this whole look. It is the outfit I would hope to wear if I (a) had that figure and (b) got invited to the ‘enclosure’ at Royal Ascot. I love the cream and black accents. The tilted hat looks great with her hair and shows off her beautiful facial symmetry. The hem is a perfect touch of ‘cool’ on an otherwise pretty conservative outfit. She looks relaxed, engaged and happy. LOVE IT, ALL OF IT.

Is there some way to find future engagements? The official website has one, but it’s been empty ever since their wedding, even though Meg’s had a whole day with the queen and we’ve seen her a few times since their wedding. Perhaps an idea for this website? So we can look forward to seeing them again! Haha.
admin says
Excellent idea, Bee! Will see how we can add it 🙂
Deborah Lorenzen says
The hat is fabulous but alas, I don’t think the hat complements the dress. Shirt waist style dresses can look dowdy and this is not flattering to Meghan’s figure. The thin belt with the gold buckle is much too tailored for this frock and it doesn’t accentuate her waistline. I agree with the other comments that the belt, shoes, and clutch just don’t go with this dress. I loved Meghan’s style pre-wedding. She was always crisp and modern in her choices. I actually love the Duchess of Wessex’s outfit: the pale pink and the black accents of her dress pick up the pink and black of her hat. Maybe white would have been the way to go with this dress; white hat, white belt with a bow accent maybe, blush pumps and matching clutch.
Suzanne says
Unfortunately, she looks extremely dowdy in this dress which is too informal for this occasion. It is a shame because she has a beautiful figure.
Michelle McClendon says
I like it!!!!!I would have loved to see her wear the peach Carolina Herrera dress, but it doesn’t meet the Ascot dress code….
Faiza says
I loved this look from head to toe retro style chic vintage and elegant
SSM says
I love this look. I think it’s classic and sophisticated – not dowdy. A beautiful silk shirt always looks appropriate, no matter where you are, and this dress could be worn to many places and still look appropriate (and divine with her skin). I’m American and I often feel like the art of matching a hat and a dress is something I really can’t judge. That said, I’ve decided to just have fun with it and ask ‘does this hat look interesting and pretty?’ If so – it’s a win. This is a win! What a talented milliner, and this fascinating shape in simple colors is great. I actually prefer her neutral disc hats but I bet I’m the only one in that camp!
Seconding the suggestion of a list of upcoming events! That’d be great.
Myriam says
I’m sure the dress looked beautiful in person but in photos the details are missed. This white dress was rather flat compared to the white lace dress that Kate wore to Royal Ascot. For Meghan going forward it’s not enough for the dress to look beautiful it should photograph well.
I love the hat. Fancy hats are not really the norm in the U.S. so I can see were picking out hats and wearing hats can be a challenge.
Kristen says
The shoes are also Givenchy according to sources.
She looked absolutely amazing!

The Royal white dress shown in the photographs is amazing. The idea is perfect for any occasion.
