Meghan and Harry visited Britxton-based youth radio station Reprezent 107.3FM in South London. This was their second official royal outing since announcing their engagement.
Meghan and Harry met presenters, producers, DJs, and staff who work together on the station’s training program. The radio station gives local young people workplace experience in media as well as a place to socialize.
Meghan and Harry braved the January cold today and looked very chic doing so!

“Her choice to wear trousers was a pleasant surprise to many as well. Bootcut black trousers are such a professional, timeless style, especially for more formal events. We almost never see the Duchess of Cambridge wearing them and this really shows that Meghan is not taking style notes from anyone. She’s doing it her own way, and staying true to herself as her role in the royal family grows.”
If there was any doubt about the popularity of the couple, the crowds outside the radio station clarified. They were very excited to see the royal couple!
We also loved how Meghan chose a coat from Canadian brand Smythe that she’s worn before… In a different colour! Back in December 2016, Meghan wore the Smythe Brando coat in Salt & Pepper.

The shoes look a bit like the Sarah Flint Jay Pump 100 in Black Suede. https://www.sarahflint.com/collections/all-styles/products/jay-pump-100-black-suede?variant=28249886273

You are absolutely correct! Great find, Caroline!!!

Love, love, love the coat, the sweater, the pants. Great style. Sweater sleeves and wide bottoms on the pants are awesome. I’m curious why her hair is so messy though … it’s not deliberate messy, which can be beautiful when done right, it looks truly messy. Maybe the weather? Not sure if it’s foggy/drizzly there and she shoved it back in a bun to keep it from frizzing maybe? She looks gorgeous nonetheless — radiant, happy, beautiful. That smile!! So glad for the work they do.
Lulu says
100 percent agree about the hair being messy – it’s the first thing I noticed. Other than that her outfit was appropriate though I wasn’t a fan of the thumb rings.
Bertie says
I’m fine with the hair — I thought a casual updo was spot on for the venue. I’m less keen on wide flares and bell sleeves but that’s because I lived through the 1970s and swore never again when they finally ended. I’ve converted to these pants though because those shoes are beautiful and strange to say my resistance to the sleeves melted away when I saw the top was still on sale and ordered one just for fun!
However, since then I’ve now recalled that while bell sleeves add a quietly feminine touch in a work situation, I had a terrible track record of dipping them in soup and suchlike when sitting down to dinner…
Lulu says
Bertie, I love your comments so much!
Bertie says
Another wonderfully well judged outfit from Meghan – this girl is a pro. I love the coat, the subtle tweed texture is to die for, and I love how Meghan’s beautiful skin tone can switch from bright jewel tones to these chic neutrals. The fit of the coat’s lean cut is so flattering on her slim frame.
And I’m glad we have a break from the tie-belts which can be less than practical for the working girl, not least when the knot inevitably works loose. I wonder if the casual updo is another concession to the practicalities of meet-and-greet without curtains of hair getting in the way. It’s also for me a hint of tiaras to come…
The House of Windsor is long overdue for a competent wearer of tailored pants – unfortunately Meghan has hit on a personal dislike of mine, that of wide flares with high-heel courts. I thought we were in for the full Melania until I saw these were not wicked stilettos but a semi-block heel from Sarah Flint with their own neat contrast tortoiseshell pattern. So I can live with the flares!
Lorraine says
Agreed! I wonder if the Duchess of Cambridge thinks dress pants are for old women or something — seems odd she never wears them. Meghan pulls them off with panache!
Bertie says
I think some people take to them naturally and Kate is just a dressy kind of girl, which is perfectly appropriate for a future Queen of course. And even Kate has managed some pants in a crop flare style in a Zara take on sailor pants for a boating engagement. Maybe Meghan will help open her eyes to dress trousers!
Elena says
may be she is not taking fashion notes from kate but she is following her steps by being a fashion ambassador for canada fashion
Lauri says
Hi Bertie! I too am swooning over this coat, the color and cut look fabulous on Meghan. I’m glad to see that she opted for a slimmer silhouette this time, it’s very flattering.
I happen to like wide leg pants, simply because they’re the complete opposite of skinny jeans and there are days when my thighs just need a bit more room. lol! But I agree that stilettos and wide leg pants have had their day and it was yesterday, the block heel worked great and the tortoiseshell pattern just added a bit of panache!
Bertie says
Oh thank you Lauri, it helps no end to find someone else has the same prob with stillettos and wide pants. That tortoiseshell detail was cheeky, as if Meghan can’t resist a little prod at convention! Perfect.
Lauri says
I just love the sense of the unexpected that pops up in Meghan’s style.
Lauri says
Oh my goodness, where to begin?! I thought Meghan looked wonderful today and Harry looks like a man in heaven!!
1) I love that Meghan has continued to wear multiple rings on her right hand, it’s just a little bit of her pre-engagement style that I’m happy that she’s kept. Especially liking the thumb ring, I’ve worn one for years and feel quite naked with out it.
2) Love the messy updo but I think it would have worked better if she didn’t have to fiddle with her bangs so much. Which makes me wonder if her up-do wasn’t so much of a conscious thought as a quick answer to a bad hair day. Either way she looks great with her hair up, I hope she wears it up for the wedding.
3) I’m thrilled to see her wearing pants/trousers!! I love the wide leg look and those pants are perfect!!!
4) Omg, I want those shoes soooo baddd!!! I love the heel, it adds just a touch of something fun to an other wise boring black pump.
5) I’m thrilled that Harry didn’t wear blue pants today! It seems that he’s upping his fashion game as well and that makes me very happy. I wonder if he could talk to Mr. Lauri and help him find shirts that aren’t flannel? lol
I think today was a win for both Harry and Meghan!! I’ve watched several videos and the way they interact with each other is beautiful to see.
Bertie says
Well, and what exactly was Harry wearing? Meghan channelled ’70s flares and bell sleeves and Harry went for a 60’s car coat style, and in new colours with his jumper as well. GF makeover or what? 😉
Lauri says
Harry’s pants look black to me or maybe navy, either way not that lighter blue that he’s been wearing forever and ever. I’m actually liking the shorter coat on Harry, very trendy but one I think he’ll be able to wear for years. If it is a GF makeover, then send Meghan over to my house cuz I’m having no luck!

I adored her outfit today, from head to toe. I am continually pleasantly surprised by her style – those trousers, top, and shoes were to die for.
I noticed 3 gold thin bands on her other hand – did you ID them yet by any chance?
admin says
We’re working on them, Anna! Thanks for asking 🙂
Lauri says
Might I add MM, that I have thin gold band rings that I purchased at Mejuri.com. They’re very nice, real gold and very affordable. You do want to be careful about sizing though, I bought a size 7 ring for my middle finger and it’s just a bit too tight, the 8 I also purchased (for my thumb) fits much better.

Great tips, Lauri! Will check it out!!!

Beautiful! just wonderful! Meghan is a hit. Prince Harry is the luckiest man, and he enjoys his true love.I’m so happy for this fantastic royal. Looking forward to celebrating the royal weeding in May.
What a graceful royal romance and love that warm the hearts of millions of people around the world!
God bless you Meghan and Prince Harry.

She has worn this coat in this color before, too – Toronto, November 2016, with a Yankees cap and jeans.
Sandra Yee says
I loved the whole outfit…as for the hair, I was glad she kept it messy, it seemed to have fit the occasion and it was very “her.” Had she worn something too put together, it might have felt that she was out of place. Perfect outfit, hair and jewelry for a more hip and urban appearance. Team Meghan all the way!!
Michelle says
This is hard for me to admit because I really thought Meghan’s style would be a breath of fresh air in the royal family, but she is such a mess right now. As a native Californian I completely understand her casual style, but it is not translating well overseas. Maybe it’s because now she is having to dress more formally in such cold weather & her style will really shine through when it warms up, but from her ill-fitting clothes to her messy hair, there is always something wrong with her outfits. First it was that white coat that looked like a bath robe & those heels that didn’t fit. Next, it was that khaki skirt that was way too big for her & those slouchy black boots that looked heavy & messy. Then it was that oversized camel coat that resembled grandpa’s old wool coat & once again the sloppy boots & ugly hat. Now it’s these trouser pants that by themselves are beautiful, but on her they look like she is swimming in them. They look ridiculous with those pumps, which again by themselves are beautiful. Then the hair that looks like she just rolled out of bed after a rough night. Next to Kate this woman looks like a hot mess. I have second hand embarrassment for her. Someone needs to take her aside and give her some fashion advice.
Kate says
I completely agree with you, she is just a mess and seems to have no respect for the job is she being asked to do and the role she will have to play.
Sandra Yee says
I hope she doesn’t change too much…I think she is a breath of fresh air. To me, Kate looks too stuffy and sooo very British and a bit matronly (from her clothes to her make up to her hair). I think Meghan just needs to find her way with adapting to the rules of the British Monarchy. Agree that some of her choices aren’t my favorites, but part of that might be her desire to please and to fit in.
lawgirlnyc says
I agree with you Sandra. I avidly followed Kate’s style (such as it is, alas) since before the wedding. I’m fortunate to be in a position to buy the designer brands she wears, but why would I? Her style is very boring, sometimes matronly, sometimes juvenile and – amazingly – sometimes a combination of the two! I am almost never interested in an outfit she wears. It’s Stepford wife safe. I like Meghan’s style. She’s bound to make some mistakes in these early days. Fit isn’t always the best, but her style is interesting and something I am inspired by.
Lulu says
It’s interesting how Kate’s style is criticized to illustrate how Meghan’s is better and vice versa – not a fan of comparing them. They are different women and likely have different rules based on their husbands’ positions in line to the throne.
