Today, Meghan had a secret engagement where she visited the Hubb Community Kitchen to take a peek at the renovations which had been completed to the community cooking space and meet with the women she had partnered with to raise the needed funds.
The smile on the faces of the Meghan and the women of the kitchen tell much of the story of both how much Meghan loves the initiative and they love her participation.Meghan stuck to Canadian brand Club Monaco for her look today, choosing a coordinating burgundy coat and dress – adding some chic Givenchy ankle booties to amp up the look.
Coat: Club Monaco ‘Daylina’ Coat
Heels: Givenchy Slip-On Ankle Booties
Ring: ‘Love’ Ring by Meredith Hahn
Dress: Club Monaco ‘Sallyet’ Dress
Earrings: Gold Bar Earrings, believed to be Vrai & Orso Line Stud Earrings

Love this look. Simple but cute.

Hi MM!!
I love your posts!!! But, in this case, I’m not sure that is the coat, are you sure? It looks very different in the pictures! thanks for your effort!

I love this outfit. Tights and matching boots are always a hit. The boots are divine. I wish I could stop here and leave it at that, but I am going to put this in writing: Meghan Markle ought to please stop with the belly-cupping. It is irksome. There. Said it and will refrain from saying it again because then I will always be saying it for the remainder of the pregnancy. Fin.

Agree with belly comment.
LS says
Good God. Look, her sartorial choices are discussed here because she is a public figure who is supposed to make calculated choices about her clothing. What we can’t comment on, however, is how a woman treats her body. That is private. Let’s be adults about this.
Lauri says
I’m so shocked that of all the things people complain about, belly-cupping is one of them. For all we know Meghan is feeling her baby move and instinctual moves her hand to “comfort” her baby. Please let’s make comments about her fashion but do negative comments really need to be made about a loving, maternal gesture that probably lasted for all of 2 seconds?
Eva says
Thank you for saying this. I too love the look, especially when worn outside with the coat on. I also hate the belly cupping with a passion.
Lauri says
I love this look and it’s one I would wear, actually I do wear a similar outfit frequently in the winter. Imho, the booties are the best part of this outfit! They add a bit of fun and I want them in the worst way!!
In the spirit of Thanksgiving, I’d like to thank the MM crew for all of your hard work and dedication. I enjoy this site very much and love reading the differing opinions. I would also like to wish every one here a Happy Thanksgiving (if you’re in the US) and I hope you all have a Happy Thursday!!
Deborah A. Lorenzen says
I love the outfit! Just a slight problem with the velvet collar looks clumsy with the collar of the coat other than that this is a very cute look. It’s the appropriateness I question. Why would one choose a knit dress and four-inch heels to work in a kitchen? It would seem hot and uncomfortable with the steam and heat of cooking. Maybe something more comfortable like cotton? Lower heeled shoes? The ring is adorable! I’m asking Santa for that one!
lawmom says
This is GOOD. The jewel tone is her color and tone-on-tone is my favorite look. The booties are good/trendy and give it an edge. I’m not generally a fan of Peter pan collars, but the color and rich material of this one keep it from looking juvenile.
Cecile says
Don’t you think that Meghan has a “hand thing” going on — I found her constantly touching her hair very distracting, and if the baby-cupping replaces that I might not mind for awhile. Sorry to say that it feels like both of these habits have a “self-petting,” “look at me” origin. I wish she would adopt the Duchess of Cambridge’s calm and elegant composure, she seems to have it together and not to “fuss” with herself.
Lauri says
Self-petting tends to be more of a self comforting gesture as opposed to a “look at me” gesture. And the DoC fusses with her hair, when it’s worn down, just as much as Meghan does and she picks at her fingers when she’s nervous. We all some sort of self comforting “tic” and these two women, given the immense scrutiny they’re under have all the more reason to have one or two.
Deborah A. Lorenzen says
LS, how can you say the way a woman treats her body is private when she performs this gesture in a public setting and quite often, don’t get that comment at all. I agree with Cecile, MM has a hand thing going on!
LS says
1. This gesture is not one that is related to her work as an HRH, like say a hand wave or a curtsy would be.
2. She does not use it in a way that distract from the message she is trying to convey, the cause she is trying to highlight, or the people she is supposed to honour.
3. Every royal has their own public mannerisms. The men of the Wales family frequently fiddle with their rings and hook their hands into their coats/blazers. Do we say that they’re showing off their wealth or their winterwear?
4. As fellow women, we should understand what a special time this is for her. She obviously looks over the moon about being pregnant. If she has adopted this mannerism to soothe some nerves in public engagements, who are we to point fingers?
Honestly, it just boils down to if you have nothing nice or constructive to say, maybe there’s no point in saying anything.

I love the burgundy coat, but I don’t think it is the Club Monaco Daylina one (the link on this website). The coat collars are very different…do you know where her burgundy coat is from? Thanks!
admin says
Hi CS,
It’s definitely that coat – it just looks different at the link as the burgundy is not available on all international versions of the site apparently. Here’s a better link: http://bit.ly/2PH8YF8

LOVE that we get to see the Duchess Meghan check in with the women from the Hubb Kitchen! I have just ordered my cookbook by the way and am happy to help with this amazing cause.
Now on to this perfect Fall burgundy look. I love the dress and it’s a very nice length with that cute velvet collar, and the coat is the perfect topper. I think she manages to look elegant and Royal while still comfortable enough to roll up her sleeves and help out in the kitchen.
The black boots, the heel and their cut are fabulous (and I actually have an almost identical pair that I just bought and wore yesterday), so these are great to me. 🙂
As a side note, I notice that some of you are not keen on Meghan cupping her baby Sussex bump, and I do understand it on one level, but for any of you who have had children, everyone is different in how they interact with their bellies during the pregnancy, and I think for Meghan, she likes that closeness. It doesn’t bother me one way or the other, but I also think that she likes the photo image it presents for sure. Just my 2 cents 🙂
SR says
Women hating on women for something as simple as belly-cupping, what is wrong with you? You never know another person’s full story, shes 37, her pregnancy could have been difficult or maybe she just loves nurturing in her own way. How does that concern you? Is it against the law? Move along. First you had a problem with her touching her hair, then her belly, like Kate Middleton didn’t have her hands wrapped in front of her the whole time in her own way. Meghan doesn’t owe you not to do as she pleases. Bye.
Deborah A. Lorenzen says
SR I apologize sincerely if I have offended you or the Duchess in any way.
Deborah A. Lorenzen says
SR I am not hating on women, don’t make assumptions. As for the Duchess, she is a public figure and I think your comments about her difficult pregnancy, her nurturing instincts are just, well too personal. We are all commenting on what we observe and what is presented to us which I think is fine. End of comments.
Lisa says
People here are becoming nasty to each other…my goodness!
SR says
Deborha, I don’t think she is presenting her “belly” for you to comment on it just because she was in an event which happened to open be open to press. What she does to her body whether she is outside or inside is , and will always be HER business. She is hardly doing anything inappropriate either, there is no royal law which says thou shalt not cup your belly or whatever thats keeping you pressed. Period. Also your comments were personal to begin with, I was merely explaining to you, but nice try on trying to turn this on me.

As I seldom read comments and I have only sent 1 comment previous to this one (I tend to visit the site just to look for inspiration as Meghan and I have the same body type), I did not notice that there was another Eva so I’ll go by Eva#2 from now on. Besides not having a problem at all wearing black/dark clothing I also like jewel tones so I would definitely wear this look. I love that she wore tone on tone and the boots are so trendy! Love the boots!!!
I also do not have a problem with her dressing up for this visit at the Hubb Community Kitchen. She went casual to a previous visit (white shirt & jeans), but maybe for this visit I would like to think that everyone wanted to celebrate the success of their cook book. Judging from the photos the other women also seem to have dressed in their best. And if Meghan can rock wearing high heels in a kitchen, then good for her! Looking at the photos what I most appreciate is seeing all the women surrounding Meghan in what it seems a tender moment; all smiles and enjoying her company (2nd photo from top). And… I bet no one there cared about her “belly cupping” or at least were polite enough to ignore it. If you look closely at other royals’ photos, you’d realize they each have their own self soothing/mannerisms… even us mere mortals. We are all human.
