Meghan attended her first “official” event with Prince Harry at the Opening Ceremonies of the 2017 Toronto Invictus Games. Okay, so they sat about a hundred seats away from each other, but it was still a huge step in the relationship between Meghan and Harry.
This was the first time that their relationship was on public display during an official event for Prince Harry. This is a huge step forward for the two – do you hear that? It sounds like wedding bells…

I agree; they are engaged. The Royal Family is a stickler when it comes to protocol, so until an announcement from Buckingham Palace of an engagement, in order to satisfy Prince Harry’s wish for the world to focus on the Invictus Games, the chances of Meghan being seen by his side is limited. However, Meghan’s presence alone, in addition to the other signs including the informative magazine interview given by Meghan would not have proceeded without Buckingham Palace’s consent and means we are being prepared for an engagement announcement imminently. I also believe they were hoping to have made the announcement already, but the untimely announcement of the 3rd pregnancy of the Duchess of Cambridge interrupted their plan. I would not be surprised if, at the time of such an announcement, we also learn that plans are well advanced for their wedding! As for Meghan’s outfit, the dress seems suitable for a afternoon/evening engagement; perhaps they were going out after the opening ceremony?
It seems like nothing could ever advance if plans have to be put on hold for the marriages and pregnancies of others. I think that the engagement won’t be announced until Meghan moves to the UK, for security reasons. But I do hope the wedding occurs soon in 2018, before Kate’s baby is born!
Read that the designers of the jacket are two friends of Meghan’s, and the dress is also Canadian, so that may have helped in the decision.
I thought the games were a special place for him – I can’t believe something so prestigious has taken off in a global platform having been dreamt up by a royal – and he wanted it to be where he introduced his special lady. Both lady and games compliment each other
The dress is gorgeous but seems like an odd choice—or will there be a party later? Why can’t they make the public happy and add an engagement ring? 🙂
I agree with you on all points Allison, beautiful dress but a bit “party-ish” and please, please let us see the ring!!! I want the jacket so badly!!! On her it looks very burgundy but on Shopbop it’s almost brown, weird.
And in one photo, the jacket looks purple. I did see her shoes and they look like “pale gunmetal” suede? I don’t know how to describe the color as they looked in the stadium. I also noticed that she looked SO pretty that she could have been wearing a housecoat from K-Mart and still look great. She is such a pretty person and her smile is so radiant—Harry is very lucky.
I thought Meghan looked wonderful and the classic combination of leather against floaty chiffon was nicely judged. She managed edgy with decorum by keeping her shoulders covered. An interesting pick I thought.
Dear MM, do you have any idea about who makes the bracelet Meghan wore? It looks to me like a chain bracelet with small disks on it, sort of like a charm bracelet but without the charms.
I was wondering about the bracelet also!
If Springsteen is playing at the close of the games, surely MM will appear, too!
