We love discovering a new brand or product thanks to Meghan – and discovering stylish, comfortable and luxurious slippers from Birdies is definitely included in that list.

Meghan has been spotted wearing Birdies slippers several times over the last few years, and we were so excited to speak with the Birdies team about their story, their history and their thoughts on Meghan wearing their slippers!

What inspired you to create Birdies slippers?

Bianca: It was actually my husband’s idea. I had been complaining for years that I couldn’t find chic slippers to wear while entertaining family and friends at home, and he encouraged me to solve the problem myself. I immediately texted Marisa the idea and found out she too had struggled with the same issue!

Marisa: I’m constantly entertaining and had been wearing ugly socks, frumpy slippers or was going barefoot, as I could never find stylish slippers. We came to find out that we weren’t the only women with this hole in our footwear wardrobes – our friends, family, and colleagues had all been facing the same issue. From there, Birdies was hatched!

What has been the best part of seeing your company grow?

One of the most exciting moments we experienced was when someone purchased a pair of Birdies that we didn’t have a connection to. Since then, we’ve seen an overwhelming amount of feedback from women showing their support and excitement about the slippers. It’s been such a roller-coaster ride, but it’s been empowering and inspiring to see how many people are rooting for us. And of course, seeing Meghan Markle in our slippers was a major “pinch me” moment.

Were you excited to see Meghan Markle wearing a pair of your slippers? Did you know she had purchased them before she wore them?

We had admired her style, poise and dedication to her career and important causes for a long time and had a picture of her in our heads when thinking about what our brand encompasses and the women we were trying to reach. We sent her a pair to try out and almost instantly she began posting and tagging us on her Instagram. 

Have you noticed an increase in sales on slippers Meghan has worn?

Birdies has seen such success over the last year, and we are immensely grateful for Meghan’s support and interest in the brand. She’s most definitely helped generate attention to our social media channels and to our slippers.

If you had to pick some new slippers for Meghan to wear from your collection, what would they be?

Her style is classic, so we’d say The Bluebird. The rich hue of the navy, luxuriousness of the suede and of course the tassel feel sophisticated and chic, just like Meghan. We’re obsessed with her style – whether she’s in skinny jeans and a sweater or rocking a leather pencil skirt, she looks incredible. What we are trying to say is that she would look amazing in any of our slippers. She’s a girl on the go, so Birdies are a perfect option for her to wear on set, on airplanes, in hotels or just hanging out with friends.

What’s next for Birdies?

We have such a great opportunity to help women feel fashionable and comfortable at home, especially when spending time with the important people in their lives. Women have many options in their closet for outdoor shoes, and we want to open that up for indoor shoes as well. We are currently working on our new collection and can’t wait to share!
