As today marks the first day of May (otherwise known as Royal Wedding month), it also marks the official kick-off of all things Royal Wedding speculation. We thought that it would be fun to share with you the picks that our Editors have for Meghan Markle’s wedding dress as we race towards May 19th.
Today, we’re sharing what Meghan’s Mirror Editorial Editor, Amanda, has to say about Meghan’s possible wedding dress choices.
I think she’s had a significant amount of help from her BFF and stylist, Jessica Mulroney. This means that the dress will likely remain very much in line with the style we have come to know (and love) from Meghan, albeit with a more traditional side as, let’s face it, she is marrying a British Prince. I think she’ll find a way to blend Meghan Markle with HRH Meghan.
(Oh, and for the record? Definitely not the dress from Suits…)
So what does modern yet still traditional look like? Amanda thinks it will combine three elements of Meghan style: 1) it will have chic, clean lines; 2) it will likely have little to minimal adornments and 3) it will almost certainly be a British designer in nod to her new position.
We wanted Amanda to guess three designers that she thinks could design the royal wedding dress and why. Here are her choices:
Ralph & Russo
Perhaps an easy guess as they designed Meghan’s engagement dress, the duo are a British brand, and Meghan has worked with her before… But it remains a solid favourite on my list. Looking at some of their most recent collections has so many inspiring images of dresses that could so easily be transformed into Meghan’s style.
Antonio Berardi
This is my wildcard pick – a brand that you may only recognize because Meghan wore a dress by the British-based designer as she stepped out to watch Prince Harry play polo last summer. But in a world of possibilities, Antonio Berardi isn’t all that far out there when you look at some of his other pieces and take into account Meghan’s obvious affection for the designer. He even already has a wedding collection that is minimal, flattering and with a few alterations.. You can see why this might be my wild card pick.
Stella McCartney
My last pick is one that I very much hope is correct in Stella McCartney designing Meghan’s wedding dress. Known for her sustainability beliefs and her modern style, Stella is undoubtedly aligned with Meghan on many major points and I’d love to see what a collaboration between them would look like. I love the modernity of one of Stella’s more recent wedding dresses – and Meghan has the body and style aplomb to pull it off. I think the “off the rack” version of the dresses might be a little too subtle for the future Princess Harry, but with several fittings at Kensington Palace and a world-renowned wedding stylist as your best friend? Anything is possible!
Oh, and I’m slightly biased on the last one. I love not only Stella McCartney, but this white dress look that Meghan wore back at The Edie Parker Spring Summer Presentation in 2014 and the Stella one really reminds of of it.
I’d love to hear your thoughts on who might design Meghan’s dress… And be sure to enter our Royal Wedding prediction pool to make your guesses before the big day for a chance to win amazing prizes!

Oh I just love these speculation posts!! Thanks Amanda for all the wedding dress research I ‘m sure you did for this post!
My favorite royal wedding dress is dress worn by CP Mette-Marit of Norway. So clean and simple but with subtle ruching in the bodice and I love how she placed the veil, very modern. So, I would love to see Meghan in a Stella McCartney creation, the clean lines and minimal adornment seems to be keeping very much with Meghan’s style. Plus, Stella is very socially conscious and I’m sure that will weigh Meghan’s decision as well.
However, Meghan has spoken about wanting her wedding dress to be romantic and whimsical. If this is the case then I think Ralph and Russo would be the best to fulfill that vision.
What are the thoughts on Meghan going with a color other than white/ivory? My second wedding dress was a pale peach with cream tulle overlay. I didn’t select because I didn’t want to wear white for my second wedding, simply that it looked the best on me. I could see Meghan going with a soft gray/silver color. It’s hard to say what other colors might look good on her as we haven’t really seen her in spring/summer colors yet.
This is too exciting! Not long now!!!

My thoughts are exactly the same as far as the color of the gown: I think she might go with a tint of color; possibly a peach or ecru. Just speculating that she might not choose a stark white gown aka Kate because it is a second marriage. Also we have to take into consideration the bride’s figure and most of all a style that flatters. I don’t think Meghan looks all that great in the short white dress. The style makes her figure look boxy and her waist too high. Maybe its just the way she is standing. Personally I love both gowns and I wore a very simple gown to my wedding much like the Stella McCartney except it was off the shoulders. Ralph and Russo’s Spring Summer couture collection features a stunning satin champagne colored gown with lace panels that would look fantastic with her skin tone and might just fit the bill with a little tweaking!

Ohhhh, champagne colored satin would look great on her!!

Great comments, Deborah! I couldn’t agree more on the colour of the dress. Funnily enough, that was a whole topic of conversation around MM HQ in the recent days! We are thinking it will be in the “white colour family” but a champagne or a creamy off-white would look great with her complexion.

Thanks for mentioning that about the short white dress that Meghan was wearing – it made her look very big and boxy.

I feel truly humbled to find the MM top pick for dress designer is same as my own. I agree that Meghan will likely go British and classic and not quite as frou-frou as Ralph & Russo. It’s a shame the photo of Meghan in the white dress isn’t more flattering as it makes her face look round & I don’t think those tiny mini dresses did her any favours – just part of the actress big-sell she’s no longer part of. I love your Berardi pick- it”s perfect! My own wild card is Giles Deacon as Pippa wore, but I would stress that is very wild!
