With the Tig having shut down, we were saddened that several years of archives – including amazing tips & IDs from Meghan herself on her fashion choices – would be lost to the depths of the internet. Luckily, we were able to track down the archives which we will share with you in a series of Tig Throwback Thursdays posts to cover even more Meghan style & fashion.
This week, we thought we’d share some of the tips Meghan and the TIG shared about dressing for the holidays from Meghan’s friend and stylist, Jessica Mulroney.
Perfectly timed for the time of year, we love that these tips, from 2016, are just as relevant for 2017 as they were last holiday season. Royalty or not, here comes a stylish holiday!
Don’t Overdo the Sparkle
Jessica shared that your holiday look should not be covered in sequins, that all one needs is a touch of sparkle.
Between the lights, the decorations, and the tinsel, there will be plenty of sparkly, shiny things to looks at this holiday season. Don’t be one of those things. You are neither a Christmas tree nor a lawn ornament. Your look should be inspired by the season, complimented by the sights and sounds of Christmas. A touch is all you need (either shoes, a bracelet or maybe even a skirt).

Add some Velvet
Velvet has been a holiday staple for years, and it’s not one Jessica shied away from.
Come the holidays, a velvet suit or dress can be a fantastic alternative in a season well stocked with shiny, sparkly party dresses. This 70’s cool look gains extra punch with jewel colors and touches of embroidery. Keep the look feminine with lacy layers underneath. Wearing velvet feels like a warm hug you can only wear once a season!

Try a Cool Pantsuit Instead of a LBD
Meghan Markle has worn tons of pantsuits over the years, undoubtedly influenced by her fashionista BFF! Jessica suggests breaking one out for the holidays.
Want to ensure that nobody bites your style at the office holiday party? Be the only one to roll up in a trendy black pantsuit or tuxedo. Nothing wrong with a little androgony to get the party started. Add a feminine touch with a sexy bodysuit or sheer blouse underneath.

Don’t Be Scared of Red
Who could forget Meghan in that little red dress? The holidays are not the time to turn away from the classic colour. Jessica agrees!
There’s a reason Santa hasn’t changed his costume, ever: it’s classic. And so is strong red lipstick, shoes or a dress. It’s equal parts festive and flirty. A little fire goes a long way, especially if your mood is naughty, not nice!

Reasonable Heels, Ladies
It’s not often we hear to be careful with the heels, but this piece of advice from Jessica is great for those of us who like to dance the night away.
A holiday mingler usually entails lots of standing around under the mistletoe. A little bit of foot foresight will make sure you don’t come off as a Grinch at the holiday party. Try a cute bootie if you really want to stay away from your everyday office look.

The Coat is Just as Important as The Outfit!
Meghan is the master of the perfectly tailored, cool coat and it stands only to reason that her stylist BFF loves them too.
Without the wrapping paper, a Christmas gift is just a thing that you hand over to somebody. Don’t just wear “a thing”: wrap up your holiday fashion in a great winter coat. What you do outside can be just as much fun as what you do inside!

I just love theses THBT articles! I’m not computer savvy so have never been able to find the Tig archives but I’m sure glad you did MM!
Living in a small rural community where the height of “dressing up” is putting on a clean flannel shirt for the guys and a pair of jeans with rhinestones on the butt for the ladies (no I absolutely do not wear them), I so enjoy seeing real fashion!! It’s like a tall, cool drink has arrived in my fashion desert!
I love, love the red Kate Spade dress! The bow on the back so reminds me of a perfectly wrapped gift, which makes this dress perfect for a special Christmas party! And I love the idea of the pantsuit in place of a LBD, it would definitely be warmer, and I’ve always liked seeing a woman in a tuxedo.
