Today, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex attended the wedding of HRH Princess Eugenie of York and Mr. Jack Brooksbank at St. George’s Chapel in Windsor.
It was a full family affair, with all members of the royal family out to celebrate Eugenie and Jack’s marriage.
Meghan fit right in to the wedding guests in a stylish ensemble that was demure and let the bride remain the focus on her big day. While many were hoping to see a pop of colour – and there has been much debate about the coat and what may (or may not) be underneath it – the navy colour is very much in Meghan’s comfort zone and her hat is really hitting it out of the park for us. We were quite surprised to see so many Pippa Small rings on Meghan’s right hand – the layering of so many pieces makes a statement in and of itself!

Love Meghan’s look today? We asked the team to come up with some of their favourite #MirrorMeg options:
What did you think of Meghan’s look for Eugenie & Jack’s wedding?
Lisa says
I’m not sure about this look. As usual, her hat game is strong but I find the rest of the outfit a tad bit boring. I’m also wondering if there may be a bump hiding under that coat – wishful thinking but I guess we’ll see during the royal tour ?.
Marjorie Ireland says
She was not trying to upstage the bride so the outfit was very low key . It was perfect!!!
Lisa says
I get that Marjorie but other guests wore less boring outfits and they didn’t upstage Princess Eugenie.
Kiki says
Agree. Meghan needs to embrace colour a bit more. She is always well turned out but sadly most often looks like she is attending a funeral. Hope she is not so sombre during the oz/nz tour.
lu says
Of course she was upstaging the bride.
Smithy says
I agree with you on that. I was wondering whether we would possibly see the DoS wearing aubergine or burgundy as she’s worn navy fairly often, I really hope we don’t get to a stage where her choices become too predictable.. But, I do think it’s interesting that she’s gone for a single breasted coat as she’s worn mostly double-breasted in the past.
Amy Bee says
Extremely doubtful she’s pregnant with that tour schedule.
Lisa says
Well @Amy, it turns out she is pregnant , I was on it ?
Lauri says
At first glance I have to say that I like this look although I do go back and forth on the neckline, it looks a bit strangle-y to me 🙂 I can’t wait to get better photos of the rings Meghan’s wearing today, they look different than her usual thin, plain bands and I like that she choose her jewelry to make a statement rather than her dress.
Laura B. says
Not my favorite look of Meghans, BUT I suspect she was being very mindful to not draw attention and keep the focus on the bride, where it should be.
Helena says
Buenas tardes, a mi también me gustaría ver planos más cercanos para ver las joyas que ha utilizado en esta ocasión, que parecen ser un pelín más barrocas o recargadas que de costumbre y no tan minimalistas, aunque seguro que igual de bonitas.
Saludos.
Sam says
Meghan really needs to be more careful. I don’t think there is anything wrong with this outfit visually, but I dread to think how much it costed in total. It’s not about ‘she has her own money!’ It’s about how it comes across, she’s spent so much money this year already on clothing and that’s without the upcoming tour. She also never seems to rewear anything. She spends a lot on similar looking outfits when she could easily mix and match garments from previous engagements. I think she would benefit from wearing British labels too. She has the power to bring money into the fashion economy of Britain and boost local labels but she always goes for luxury foreign brands. I’m aware that the heads of some of these labels are British but its not the same. This is wear the Duchess of Cambridge does well: Championing British labels, and mixing high street with designer, this way it doesn’t look like a display of excess constantly.
I liked Meghan’s look today, may have just been a tad too much on the dark side.
Amy Bee says
Kate wore a bespoke McQueen in the identical style that she wore to Trooping last year and she rarely wears high-street these days. When she does were high-street it’s Zara which is a Spanish company.
Sam says
Very true Amy but she also wore a lot of Labels like Reiss, Whistles and TOPSHOP etc. I just think she could be mixing more pieces from these non luxury labels amongst what she buys 🙂
Amy Bee says
Meghan wore a 69 pound shirt in Sussex last week. It’s a myth that she only wears luxury items.
Smithy says
To be fair, Alexander McQueen is a British brand with the creations having been made in the UK and with materials sourced in the UK, some will inevitably be from abroad. Kate does wear a lot of high-end British high street (i.e. LK Bennett, Hobbs, Boden etc) as well. People don’t mind as much when the money is being spent on British brands, with expensive creations obviously giving business to other factories and labels in addition, and the money circulating into the economy. Post-Brexit, the fashion industry will become even more important as the royals are the ones who promote these fashion brands and thus stimulate the consumption of fashion creations. Considering tax payers partly contribute to their lifestyle, it’s a nice easy way to give back to the economy which helps to fund them. Meghan wore and promoted quite a lot of British brands pre-marriage (Stella McCartney, Victoria Beckham, Alexander McQueen, Strathberry, Huit Denim etc) so I wonder what’s changed.
Obviously there’s no need for her to stick solely to British brands, Kate and Sophie definitely don’t, but wearing British is a great way of showing appreciation for the economy which they partly depend on.
Sam says
Great post Smithy 🙂
Amy Bee says
There’s no rule that says royals have to wear British brands and more and more, the other Royals are wearing “foreign” designer clothes. Just look at Sophie’s recent tours abroad and Kate almost exclusively wears Jenny Packham and McQueen. Everything else she wears is “foreign” Erdem, Dolce and Gabbana, Chanel, Prada. Even the clothes wore for her first engagement back from maternity leave were Swedish and Spanish.
Smithy says
Indeed, there is no rule, but the main staples of both Kate’s and Sophie’s are normally British-born and/or British-based designers and they are definitely the go-to designers for big occasions. For example, Sophie has extreme loyalty to Jane Taylor Millinery and Kate very often goes to McQueen. However, both repeat and wear more affordable and/or British made clothing. You are correct when you say that Kate did indeed wear Spanish and Swedish clothing in her first engagement back from mat leave. But her blouse was from Joseph (a British fashion company) and her boots were Penelope Chilvers (a British company). Again, it’s not about exclusively wearing British as fashion diplomacy counts when abroad but it would be nice to see more British designers for big events. If she could go back to balancing designers they way she did before her marriage and through her engagement, I think there would be less talk of wanting her to wear more British. When she wore the Marks and Spencers black blouse it flew off the shelves and would have done wonders for their sales, it would be lovely to see her wear something from Marks again, they do some really nice things.
Lisa says
I’m with you Sam. Let’s hope everything she wears on the tour will not be new and that she repeats some clothing and wears a few budget friendly items. I am hoping to see her in some JCrew at some of the Invictus Games events. However, based on her recent engagements that involved sport, it might be heels and business outfits.
Sam says
Very true Lisa! There are a lot of great more affordable lines that she could choose from 🙂
Amy Bee says
If she wears J Crew, Sam will complain that she’s not wearing British designers.
Lisa says
Lol @Amy. I think Sam will be fine.
lawmom says
I cringe when I see the description is “bespoke,” as it often is… buy off the rack and get a decent tailor Meghan!
Deborah A. Lorenzen says
Boring and it looks like a maternity outfit which I’m sure will get some use out of in the months to come. But alas she rarely wears anything twice. I don’t think a more autumnal color would have drawn that much attention to her presence. Looked a little staid, after all a wedding is a celebration. It’s kind of disconcerting that she knows exactly where the camera is and manages to stare right into it. I liked the clutch. Was she carrying gloves?
Madison Mile says
I also agree that Duchess Meghan was chic and elegant, but also mindful not to upstage the new bride Eugenie. The navy color palette was a nice way to be in a darker shade without it being the obvious black choice. Navy also really looks great on her skin tone.
I love that the Givenchy coat has a detailed high neckline and the classic cut and color will allow her to wear again with other ensembles and still look amazing.
The hat is very pretty and I like the way her updo was arranged around it (and yes the loose tendril too!)
Everybody get ready for the Australian tour! This is where I’m sure we’ll see great pops of color and interesting designer choices. 🙂
Karen says
Im always rooting for Meghan to get it right. It’s a new and challenging life for her and I get the stress level. However, this is a complete miss for me. It’s time for her to get her hair in order. I know it was windy but Kate managed, as usual, to have not a hair out of place. So we know it can be done. She needs to borrow Kate’s hair stylist and get a case of hairspray. This is not the place for messy hair. I thought she looked as if she rolled out of bed and threw on a coat. There were plenty of fashion statements at the wedding so I don’t think drawing focus was the issue. Her look was simply bland .
Imogen says
And given how bland it was, her outfit could just have easily come from a British high-end high street shop.
Amy Bee says
Meghan’s hair was fine. She’s not white so her hair is never going to look like the other members of the Royal family. And this is just my opinion, but I don’t think it’s appropriate for white people to comment on a person of colour’s hair.
Christina says
Karen’s comment on Meghan’s hair did not have any racial undertone at all. Would you feel the same way if it were a person of color commenting on a white person’s hair? Race has nothing to do with it, it is the hair style. Meghan prefers a less structured look than Kate and other royals, and likes to have loose pieces in her face. It has nothing to do with the texture.
Karen says
Her hair was always flawless on suits. It has nothing to do with race. We’ve seen it look great.
Karen says
Her hair was always flawless on suits. It has nothing to do with race. We’ve seen it look great many times. Everyone is entitled to their opinion – regardless of their skin tone.
Susie says
Are you serious? A white person can’t comment on a person of colors hair? By saying that you made it all about race! It’s not racist, at least for me, to comment on the DOS hair if I love it or don’t love it. The DOS has styled her hair in just about every imaginable way the last eight years and it’s been many different shades, different lengths, and different styles. The issue with her hair today, at least for me, was that the wind was her enemy and blew her pretty updo to pieces. I follow this blog because I love that Meghan is a member of the Royal family now and I think she’s done a fantastic job this far!
Stacey says
Meghan is not Kate Middleton and vice versa. She has her own style ideas and preferences. Some will obviously not be liked by many. You would never see Meghan in a dress like what Kate wore today, because its simply not her style. Furthermore she has no one to please but herself and her husband in the way she dresses and styles her hair, if she likes the more relaxed messy bun, that is her perrogative.
Secondly when Kate reuses an outfit, it usually something she has worn a couple of years ago and not months ago. Meghan only became a part of the Royal family in May, 4 months ago, do you really expect her to reuse an outfit she wore in May, June, July or even last month ?????
From observing Meghan in the past months, it appears she gravitates to very clean lines and simple clothes and a very neutral palette of colours. I dare say you may never see her in a colour like what Kate wore, so please people get over it !
Amy Bee says
Well said, Stacey!
Dee says
These criticisms doled out really are over the top. Would someone *really* expect a Duchess to wear a high street dress to a royal wedding? It seems like some of the guests of this website will nitpick and criticize, no matter what the Duchess does. I second Amy Bee – please stop holding a POC to the same beauty standards as a white person. She looks beautiful in this deep sapphire blue and like all of the other guests, Kate included, was dressed as to not overshadow the bride’s beauty on her big day. There’s a difference between clean lines and boring.
Stacey says
Meghan is not Kate. She has her own style preferences which is definitely very different from Kate. You probably would never see her in a dress like the one Kate wore today. She appears to gravitate to styles that are simple with clean lines and no frills or fuss and that is entirely her choice and certainly not the British public.
It appears that she also prefers a very neutral palette of colours, which again you may never see her in a colour like the one Kate wore today. She does not have to please anyone but herself and her husband, so please get over it !!!!
She is not here to promote syles or brands.
Furthermore, Meghan has only been a member of the British Family since May 2018. Do you really expect her to reuse outfits from between a four month period ? When Kate reuses an outfit it is usually from one or two years ago or even further back.
Amy Bee says
Let’s remember on suits, she wasn’t doing her own hair and more than likely was wearing hair pieces. I want to make it clear that I’m not accusing anybody of being racist but given the history of people of colour being criticised for their hair by white people, I think it’s best that those who are white and have no knowledge of how black hair behaves or how to treat it, should refrain from commenting on it.
Karen says
I have a great deal of knowledge about different sorts of hair and the challenges of working with it as I was in the fashion industry for 25 years working with models and celebrities. A duchess most certainly has access to hair and make-up professionals and does not have to deal with their own hair if they don’t want to.
OG SG says
I like her in navy. I just really object to people who wear outerwear coats indoors (Kate drives me nuts with that). I was always taught it is rude. And this is quite clearly a coat, not a coatdress, because she has a dress on underneath and it is not a suit jacket or anything. It also makes her look bulky, as outerwear does, and we know she clearly is not that! I love her accessories, especially the bag and the ring labeled “small gold and diamond ring” but I think this look would have been better if she had just left her coat off and gone with whatever dress is underneath. I know it was windy but no one else appears to be wearing coats, even Kate, and she loves her a coat.
kathleen says
Do we have any idea what the matching dress underneath the coat looked like? I ask because I found it a bit odd the way she had the coat buttoned. Just the top three or so and never opened the coat later. I thought perhaps it had a deep v-neck and she didn’t want to show it at the church. Many are speculating she was hiding a bump but I don’t think it’s possible to develop a “bump” large enough to be visible in just a few days!
Deborah A. Lorenzen says
I agree with posters that commented on wearing a coat indoors. The dress underneath was probably sleeveless. A bespoke outfit that costs 10,000,00 US dollars, for instance, certainly puts a lot of money in the designer’s pocket but I really don’t know how much it helps the British economy overall. Maybe women of means will rush to their seamstresses and ask them to stitch up a copy for them! But I doubt it, it’s not the 1800s!
Conda Momcilovic says
Meghan and Kate have their own respective styles. I enjoy seeing their individual choices of clothing, hats, hairstyles, and jewelry without comparison to each other. The fact that they do stay true to their individual tastes is what makes seeing them both so special.
We are all members of the human race, and are lucky enough to have different ethnicities that make us all unique, interesting, and precious in our own ways.
Susie says
I don’t normally comment, but I had to when I read this post. I can’t understand why anyone would think the DOS can’t do this tour while pregnant. Yes, she will be busy, but the way she and the DOZ will travel and carry out engagements will be in the lap of luxury. She will be on a fabulous plane that will be private, at least for the tour. In addition, she will take with her a gaggle of assistants, hair and makeup, dressers, a lady in waiting (assistant) a car and driver, a huge security team and incredible accommodations. The DOC has done tours while pregnant, including the one to the US in 2014, while five months pregnant with Princess Charlotte. No, it wasn’t as long, but the length of the tour really doesn’t matter. If she is pregnant, I bet she will power through the tour just fine, given she’s healthy and has no restrictions from her dr. If she did, they would not do the tour.
Imogen says
I think it’s more to do with the Zika virus being present in Fiji than with the DoS being unable to travel and work while pregnant.
Dawn says
Kates hair is often frumpy when worn in a up due! I’ll take a natural look any day over evening styles in the day. For all who seem to condemn Meghan for building a wardrobe of clothing please think of the amount of money Kate spends on hairdressers. I can only imagine.
Helen says
A mi me parece que escogió un out-fit impecable como siempre, pero no apropiado para una boda, si para un evento oficial, le hubiera faltado algún punto de color para dar alegría al estilismo, era demasiado sobrio y oscuro, y “tapado” en exceso….
