Meghan's Mirror

Chronicling the Chic, Classic and Casual Style Duchess of Sussex (the former Meghan Markle)

October 13, 2018

A Look at Meghan’s Past Australian & New Zealander Design Picks

With the Royal Tour of Australia, New Zealand, Fiji & Tongo just days away, we are looking forward to Meghan’s first big royal tour by looking backwards at New Zealander and Australian designers Meghan has worn in the past to get a sense of which designers she might turn to for this royal tour. One of our top picks is the designer of Meghan’s engagement photo dress, Ralph & Russo, whose lead designer, Tamara Ralph, is Australian. It would be great to see another stunner from this designer.

We already know another 5 of Meghan Markle’s favourite Australian designers, as we looked at them in an earlier article where we made some of our top picks for Meghan to wear from those brands. But Meghan has also worn pieces from Australian brands in the past, some of them more recently than others!

Here is a recap of pieces from Australian designers Meghan has chosen to date:

  • Alice McCall Oceanography Playsuit

  • Alice McCall Orpheus Maxi Dress

  • Bec + Bridge Nomadic Jumpsuit

  • Dion Lee ‘Folded Sail’ Dress

  • Karen Gee ‘Blessed’ Dress

  • Oroton Avalon Zip Top Crossbody

  • Ralph & Russo A/W 2017 Ballgown

  • Ugg Bailey Button Boot

One of our favorite looks is the Bed + Bridge Nomadic Jumpsuit that she wore back in 2014. It’s definitely a little too “risqué” for the Duchess of Sussex, but it was a gorgeous look on Meghan.

A New Zealander lookback is a little more simple… There is only one designer to date, Emilia Wickstead! We’re sure that we’ll see this list grow as the Tour progresses as there are great, talented designers in New Zealand like Rebecca Taylor, Zambesi, Storm or Karen Walker.

  • Bespoke Emilia Wickstead Black Dress

  • Emilia Wickstead Bespoke Black Dress

  • Emilia Wickstead Bespoke Black Jacket

    Shop
  • Karen Walker ‘Temptation’ Stud Earrings

    Shop
  • Karen Walker Runaway Ring

    Shop
  • Leap of Faith White Tuxedo Blazer Dress

We’d love your guesses on who Meghan might choose to tip the sartorial fashion hat to while on the Royal Tour to both Australia and New Zealand, so share your thoughts in these fun polls, below! We’ll share the results just before the tour starts. We’d also love to hear your “wild card” if we haven’t added your pick to the list.

I’m excited to see her maternity wardrobe! I’m sure she has some cute outfits she’ll debut on this trip!
