Meghan and Harry today attended the WellChild Awards Ceremony in London. It was the second year in a row that Meghan joined Harry, a patron of the organization, for the Awards Ceremony.
Meghan’s look was a throwback to one of her most iconic looks – her engagement announcement – with the Duchess re-wearing the iconic P.A.R.O.S.H. dress.
Coat: Sentaler Wide-Collar Wrap Coat
Heels: Manolo Blahnik Brown Suede Heels
Dress: P.A.R.O.S.H. Green Dress

What did you think of Meghan’s look for the WellChild Awards?
Lisa Mac says
Meghan has continued re-wearing items (coat, dress, shoes) beyond the tour of Africa, where reworn and more accessible clothing was so in keeping with the location. I can’t help but feel it’s related to her and Harry’s efforts to rein in the media. By wearing familiar pieces, Meghan reduces the mania to get new photos of her clothes and puts the emphasis on the cause she’s supporting. (You may remember that last year she was criticized for wearing a chic black pantsuit to this event since it’s about kids.) But by tossing in a new accessory (bag), she satisfies those who look to her for inspiration and fresh ideas. It will be interesting to see if this pattern continues.

I’m very sorry but I’m struggling a bit with Meghan at the moment, and of course there’s nowhere safe to go and discuss it!! I do at least notice that tonight’s outfit is in green, same as Kate’s sparkling sequin gown, and maybe plays down Meghan’s appearance in an intentional way when Kate is doing the big state visit thing.. But otherwise my problem stems from what I thought was Meghan’s eighth shirtwaister on tour.
Sorry. I made that half of the outfits she wore, and I was just sad. I saw comments to the effect that she was downplaying the glamour because she was dealing with serious subjects. But other royals manage that without leaving out the photogenic side, which is surely part of the publicity that serious causes need.
I’m wandering around with the fear that Meghan doesn’t want fashion followers, she sticks to dull colours and odd styles, and is to my mind undermining the fan support of blogs like this one. If my contribution is too lightweight for her, then ok, I can take it elsewhere, there are other royals and blogs. But I find this a sad outfit to wear to an event with children, that’s all. Please excuse me as I say, I’m certainly not interested in a fight., just mulling things over.

Meghan Markle is a beautiful , intelligent woman in a new world, a new marriage, with a new baby, and a new job.
It is likely she is exploring how she wants to develop in this new role, and having been an actress in her former life, perhaps she is currently more focused on her capacity for supporting the causes she and Harry are involved in than Iin trying to satisfy the fashion whims of strangers.
She strikes me as happy, caring, and intelligent. And she looks wonderful!
I have no idea what you find “sad” about the elegant outfit she was wearing.
Adele says
Agreed! Besides, it’s not her job to worry about the success of blogs detailing her every item of clothing. She just wants the press to back off her a little and rewearing clothes is just on way she can do that for a bit. I also think that as a new royal, she had to purchase new clothes to begin with, but now she can rewear a lot of her items. I for one appreciate this as any normal person would not wear clothes once and then never again, that is promoting fast fashion.
She looks amazing, and well said in your reply.

I like this dress on the Duchess as I did previously. The colour looks wonderful. The colour tone of the shoes and handbag I love, with the interesting addition of the scarf. Her hair looked magnificent. She looked happy and engaging.
Lauri says
I love this look!!! The color of the shoes really make this outfit pop!! And that dark green color is perfect on Meghan. Lastly, I love how she added some whimsy to this look with that great purse! While it’s not practical in any way, I want it sooo badddd!

I love this dress and am happy to see her in it again! I actually prefer her accessorizing this time around. The bag and shoes are a wonderful touch for autumn. I’ve been looking for a green piece to add to my own wardrobe for the upcoming cooler months, and this just reinforces that I need to keep searching for the right piece! The color is gorgeous and suits her perfectly!
OG SG says
Her hair looks glorious. I generally like this outfit…the green is a good color on her. Although in several pictures it is pulling too tightly in the stomach area. I appreciate her rewearing clothing, but her body has a different shape now (no criticism on that) and that should be addressed with her pre-baby clothes. I also love the coat, but tbh I am kind of over this way of wearing it on her shoulders. Either wear a cape or put your arms in the sleeves! 🙂

I love Meghan’s no-fuss approach to sartorial matters. No one can be 100% perfect with every choice, but she generally manages to carry off her looks with effortless aplomb. Her style = effortless chic, in my opinion. She is definitely NOT a high-maintenance diva by any means. I don’t think she worries too much about matters involving wrinkling, which she could pay more attention to. And I wonder whether she will go the route of paying more attention to tailoring in some instances. I tend to think that because she is said to do most of her own clothing selection and planning, some of the issues with wrinkling and tailoring are overlooked. She probably sometimes gets styling ideas and input from her friend, Jessica, and now also perhaps from designer friends, like Clare, Misha, Victoria Beckham, and Roland Mouret. Overall though, I think Meghan is badass amazing, even if I don’t always like her every choice. I think that she dresses for her own body and in her new role, she’s ever more conscious of wearing ethical brands and local designers on tour. I agree with Lisa Mac’s above observations. It’s quite clear that Meghan has done a lot of re-wears during and after the South Africa tour. It might be strategic, sure. But it could also be because she has filled out a working wardrobe now, whereas last year (as a new royal) she was in the process of putting a wardrobe together, while also juggling the fact of her pregnancy and having to let out some of her planned outfits. She did have some new outfits on the SA tour, even though there were also a number of repeats from the South Pacific tour. Meghan is simply a very interesting personality, and an amazingly strong, brilliant woman who’s fun to watch… Re Bertie’s comments, that’s an interesting take. Still, I have to say that from some observers, there would be complaints had Meghan worn everything new or been overly glamorous on the SA tour. It simply was not that kind of tour. The Sussexes both hit the right notes. They are very much in tandem, and they have a great group of people (largely women) working with them, whom they are also in excellent tune with. Nothing in life is perfect. And I think Meghan has realized in her first year as a royal that no matter what she does or what she wears, there will be constant criticisms. There’s no way to please everyone all the time, and it’s impossible to please the media, so Meghan is right to please herself and to be herself always in all ways.

Hi Mia, thank you so, so much for this, you’ve expressed it beautifully and are helping me to come round. There’s so much negative out there I hate when any of it gets in my head and mucks up my view of Meghan. I remember now that the Room 502 website, home to the shorter khaki shirtdress she wore, had a summing up of their own policy and style choices which I thought encapsulated Meghan’s own style perfectly, and you’ve just re-stated much of that. I think I can cheer up now with your help! I really appreciate being able to air such a view here and hear back from the well-informed posters who make up this lovely page.. I couldn’t bear to leave it!
Lauri says
HI Bertie,
I’d like to add to Mia’s excellent points, by saying that in many ways this last year was a very tough year for Meghan with the constant tabloid press criticism, evidenced by the lawsuit she filed recently and Harry’s statement. While Meghan has stated that she doesn’t read her press, positive or negative, I’m sure that her team, her friends, her mom and certainly her husband are and perhaps giving her an overview of what is being said. That might be weighing on her and her fashion choices, why give the press more ammunition?
Also, she just had Archie 5 months ago and her body is not quite back it’s pre-pregnancy shape so she might not be inclined to purchase items that she might only be able to wear for the next month or so.
So to sum up my thoughts…Meghan is (perhaps) taking a step back from “fashion” a bit in order to give the tabloid press less ammo, to give her still changing figure a chance to settle and to figure out for herself how she can combine style and substance in a way that rings true for her.
I truly don’t think we’ve seen the last of glamour Meg, I think we just need to give her some time.
Bertie says
Hi Lauri, thanks so much, appreciate your input. Just to say I’m fully on board with unfair the treatment of Meghan has been, no one should ever be targeted in such a disgraceful manner .Not so sure there is any way out of attracting criticism other than to carry on with the dignity she does, the press could as easily take issue with a dull wardrobe as a flamboyant one. At the moment she is regularly referred to as ‘fashionable’ with no particular qualification, which could easily be another instance of ‘othering’.
I think what she’s wearing may simply be within her own style palette, though I love the amazing run-down Mia has given of the variety of her many big hits. Sometimes I watch Queen Letizia wear a succession of black-and-white outfits and feel I’ve had enough, But then she wears something so pretty I forget the monochrome and just love the dress. Meghan did just this with her stunning OdlR in Sydney. I’m sure it’s just early days and she’s still finding her feet, especially after the media pasting that you rightly point out has been her lot. So lovely to hear from you and thank you for joining in so kindly!

Mia, thanks for jumping in my head, snatching my thoughts, and posting it..

I really like this engagement dress repeat by Meghan. And I don’t mind the coat worn over her shoulders. Meghan just has a no-fuss approach that seems effortless, edgy and casual. It’s who she is. I don’t like her every choice, but I definitely enjoy watching to see what she will have in store for us next. She’s worn some iconic outfits that are very memorable (Antonio Berardi navy dress famously at the polo match during their courtship, and again surprisingly during the South Pacific tour; white Theia gown; Fijian blue gown; Roland Mouret navy dress the night before her wedding; Brandon Maxwell pop of yellow midi dress; Oscar de la Renta bird dress for the National Geographic awards in Australia; both wedding dresses and especially the veil are iconic; the gorgeous vintage black trapeze coat over black pants for the NY baby shower –with sunglasses adding to the Jackie O vibe; the stunning red maternity dress for the Morocco arrival; the shimmering beige gown in Morocco; the green kick skirt with white cashmere sweater in Ireland; green leather skirt with green silk blouse; the bespoke maternity white shirt look with black skirt for 2019 Endeavour Awards; and the black McQueen tux for the 2018 Endeavour Awards; and many more…)

I love this group. Thank you for agreeing that we should stop. being so critical. I am interested in what causes she is supporting. I think we spend to much time discussing their clothes and forgetting their patronages. .
Lauri says
Hi kay, I come here to discuss Meghan’s fashion because this is primarily a fashion site. Sure MM does give us a bit about the event the Duchess is attending but most of the attention is on what Meghan is wearing. When I want to discuss the event or the causes that Meghan is supporting then I go to MadAboutMeghan, as that site is more focused on the event/causes with just a bit of fashion information thrown in. Personally I love having 2 sites to choose from, one for fashion and fun, because some days I just need some fun and fashion 🙂 and one site for the more serious conversation for when Meghan is highlighting causes that are close to my heart.

Did anyone notice the new cuff and chain pendant bracelet on her left arm?

Cool @mardy druel. It’s nice that we think alike when it comes to the Duchess of Sussex. There’s a lot of negativity out there being directed at Meghan, which is just so awful and trifling. Sending my love and support to Meghan & Harry for all they do, and for the beautiful people in heart and spirit that they are!
