Today, Meghan joined a panel in honour of International Women’s Day. The panel, convened by the Queen’s Commonwealth Trust, brings together a special group of female thought-leaders and activists to discuss a range of issues affecting women today.
Meghan’s look was monochrome chic, with designs reminiscent of vintage 60’s mod styles. Her youthful printed dress comes from high street retailer Reiss, a brand we haven’t seen her in before. This may be a sign of things to come – we would love to see more British designers in Meghan’s closet! Meghan accessorized the black and white dress with her trusty Manolo Blahnik BB pumps in black suede and her Alexander McQueen black blazer. The look was simple, elegant, with a touch of whimsy coming from the boldly patterned dress.

I love that the DoS is passionate about issues affecting women and girls, while acknowledging the need to also engage men and boys.
While I am personally not a fan of short dresses, she looks lovely and happy.
Cher says
I am sorry, but I have to agree with Lisa, this dress is too short and not appropriate for this event. Meghan has worn other pieces that would have worked for this event.

So here’s a look that I already can see is a LOVE it or HATE it form Duchess Meghan. While I appreciate mixing up the dress look with a print, I’ve stated many times I just don’t think prints look as good on her as solid colors or smaller detailed prints.
With the shorter, above the knee dress, she’s showing a lot of leg. I happen to feel if you still have great legs/feet that are not swollen this far into the pregnancy, then go for it! However, the fact that they are bare I know will rankle some.
I love this blazer she’s wearing and think the updo with a little bit of the “Messy Meghan” loose hair in front is very cute and keeps the overall look fresh and youthful, as do her multiple stacking rings.
The one place where I think the wardrobe failed again unfortunately is in the material choice In other publications you can see that the dress wrinkled terribly when she was done speaking on the panel and walked back out to the car. This is a little pet peeve of mine and unfortunately I know she’ll get “dinged” for it. But overall, a lovely pregnancy look that took a little bit of a fashion risk. Why not? 🙂

It surprises me that KP Twitter shared the photo shown above so soon after the warning to trolls and the demand for users to show respect and courtesy when commenting on the Royal Family’s social media sites.
Kathleen says
If only the dress was a couple inches longer it would have been a great look! Being on a panel in a professional setting and having your skirt ride up almost to the top of your thighs (in some of the photos) doesn’t cut it.
Rosanna says
I agree, Kathleen. Just a couple inches longer would be more professional.
Outlander2 says
Agree – the dress was unfortunately too short when sitting. Also thought a more cropped blazer might have been interesting to see. Regardless, I’m so impressed that she is still keeping a busy work schedule this close to the due date, that’s amazing!
Pam says
Totally agree.

Thank you Meghans’ Mirror admin for that amazing video collage! Love those quotes and Happy International Women’s Day! Congratulations are also in order to the Duchess on her appointment by the Queen as Vice-President of the Queen’s Commonwealth Trust. I noticed that black and white seemed to be the theme for outfits today and I can only dream about one day owning that gorgeous Alexander McQueen blazer!

I think she looks great. If there’s ever a day to be true to self, why not International Womens Day?!? While many will critique her hemline, I think it’s interesting to note that Kate wore a black and white print dress of equally short length with a blazer when she was pregnant with George and no one made a comment about it. I don’t get the double standard. Go DoS! And Go DoC!!! Love them both.
Lisa says
I recall the dress and think people did not complain because the DoC wore tights with it.
OG SG says
I also don’t think Kate sat down in that dress, which is really where it went from ok short to too short here.
OG SG says
I don’t love the dress…not a fan of the neckline or pattern (though I generally like patterns). While she was standing, I thought the shorter length of the dress was good to offset the turtleneck but it was definitely too short while she was sitting down. If she hadn’t crossed her legs it might not have hiked up so high. I am far from a prude but it did raise my brows a bit.

Let me first say how much I love Meghan’s glowing skin and radiant smile today! She was definitely in her element today and she did an amazing job for International Women’s Day!
Now my thoughts on her look today… It seems her took a page out of the DOC guide “on how to dress a royal bump”. This look remind me of what the DOC wore in 2013 while pregnant with Prince George. If I recall she wore a black knit type fitted blazer with three quarter length sleeves, a black and white polka dot dress above the knee, and a pair of black suede courts. I thought the dress was too short then and I think Meghan’s dress was too short today. I actually like the dress, just not for this occasion and not with this jacket. I LOVED the jacket when she originally wore last year, but today it just looks too tight and uncomfortable. I’ve always though that a blazer should always be able to button and close, regardless of whether you wear it that way or not. With all the black jackets and coats she owns, I wonder why she selected this one. Perhaps she wanted to wear it again and try to stop the daily attacks she gets about the cost of her clothes and that she typically doesn’t wear anything more than once or twice!
So overall I thought the dress was too short and the jacket was too tight, but she still looked as stunning as always!

What an amazing way this was to kick start an overall empowering IWD! Like Meghan said in the panel, I too celebrated with the women around me. But onto her work – so thrilled to hear of her VP appointment, and it’s wonderful to have heard an amazing new speech by her on women. Some great lines to add to her history of wonderful quotes (MM team – love that you shared them all!!). She is truly an empowering, amazing woman, and today was such a perfect fit for her to shine. And she looked gorgeous to boot.
Shersha says
I completely agree with you Danielle. She really is an empowering amazing woman. This for me is what always stands out about her. The Duchess always seems to have such a glow and happiness about her. Her continuous efforts over many years to empower, uplift and build up other women, young girls and to support disadvantaged communities, are truly inspiring.
Deborah Lorenzen says
Perhaps if she had worn lower heeled shoes that may have offset the lack of length in the dress, but yes I had to raise an eyebrow too when she crossed her legs. Always a fan of a jacket and dress combo. Jacket a bit tight. Love the diamond earrings.
Gigi says
Oh dear! MM this is far to short, it’s just not a practical choice when you are going to be seated in front of an audience – awkward! Love the jacket, but perhaps you could start putting a bit more thought into the events you will be attending? Or perhaps hiring a stylist, who could think these things through for you. As always, love your work however, yay to embryonic feminists!
Deborah A. Lorenzen says
Gigi! I would think she has a stylist! Point well made!
Deborah A. Lorenzen says
I would like to thank today’s posters for being respectful of other’s observations and comments!
And yes GiGi you would think she would have a stylist!
Pam says
Ditto to what you said about other posters being respectful of differing opinions. There’s been a bit too much of some taking it upon themselves to quickly chastise.
Gary Melican says
I love her dress!
