Today, Aunt Meghan and Uncle Harry (otherwise known as the Duke and Duchess of Sussex) attended the christening of Prince Louis, the son of Harry’s brother Prince William and the Duchess of Cambridge.
The Christening took place at the Chapel Royal in St James’s Palace in London. The whole family was beaming, obviously delighted to be celebrating the newest addition – who appears to have slept through the entire affair!
Meghan turned to legendary American designer Ralph Lauren for her Christening look.
We love how the colour was not the “typical” beige we have been seeing from Meghan when out with the Royal Family, but was still neutral enough to not overshadow the stars of the day, the Cambridge family celebrating their small son Prince Louis. The choice of an olive green is striking enough to stand out, but not overshadow.
Hat: Stephen Jones
Dress: Bespoke olive green dress by Ralph Lauren
Heels: TBC, believed to possibly be Olive Green Suede Manolo Blank BB Heels
Handbag: Unknown Green clutch
Gloves: Unknown Green suede gloves
Earrings: White Gold & Diamond by Cartier (Meghan’s wedding earrings)

Hummm, will stand by for better photos…. on first look that’s a lot of olive green, head to toe. She really likes that longer skirt length.
Imogen says
Not sure about that colour for a christening.
Lisa says
I’m not sure about this outfit. I don’t really like the color for the occasion. The hat is nice though. I’m looking forward to her outfits in Ireland tomorrow.
SY says
Agree about the color, this might have actually been a great choice for Ireland with the subtle green nod. I would have liked to see her in a blush color for this event. Never the less, she looks beautiful in it. Also, still not a fan of the heavier make up…
Smithy says
Agree about it being good for Ireland. I’m not sure where else this outfit would be appropriate. Too dark for a wedding perhaps, maybe Ascot? I’m really not sure.

The Army?
Amy Bee says
Given the fashion on display today at the christening, Meghan looked quite modern and chic.
Lauri says
I agree Amy Bee! too much frou-frou for my tastes but that’s what makes fashion watching so much fun!
Lisa says
I personally loved the Duchess of Cambridge’s outfit, particularly that headpiece.
Lauri says
Lol, that’s the part I disliked the most 🙂 I love reading all the differing opinions here, it’s so much more fun than if we all liked the same thing.
Lisa says
? ?…I definitely wouldn’t wear it myself of course.
Lauri says
Of course not, I’m sure have too much style! ? It kinda reminds me of Wallis Simpson’s wedding hat?
Lauri says
Oh geez my typing today is all over the place! I meant “I’m sure you have too much style”.
Smithy says
I agree with many of the comments thus far. I’m really not sure about the colour for a christening (please don’t say she’s going back to only wearing muted tones!) and I would like to see something more fitted in future and not so baggy. However, I like the neckline (classic but modern) and there’s always tomorrow to see another hat and dress/coat combo, fear not!
AnnaP says
I never knew there was a colour code for a Christening. What utter rubbish!
Amy Bee says
Neither did I. Very strange comments.
Callie says
And what ‘utter rubbish’ to expect people to not have an opinion on a color just because there’s no color code.
ac says
just came here to ask the question “what colour is appropriate for a Christening?” Didn’t realize there was one…
Lauri says
While I agree that this color would not have been my first choice for a summer christening, I think it looks great on Meg! I especially like the sleek, minimalist look of her dress and hat compared to the more frilly dresses and hats the other guests are wearing. And in some photos it looks like her hair in back in a low ponytail, very nice!! Lastly, how interesting that she’s carrying a pair of gloves! Would she really be wearing those today? Why? Isn’t it awfully hot in London these days?
admin says
The gloves are a mystery to us as well. Someone suggested that perhaps they were in case the inside of the chapel was cool? Not sure.
Lauri says
I’ve noticed that several of the European royal ladies also carry gloves, they don’t seem to wear them but just carry them, rather odd 🙂
Madison Mile says
Ah! Meghan in another color, which is fantastic. I’m a little surprised by the Olive green, but the more I look at everything together, the beautiful dress, hat (again designed to be worn to the side, which suits her face so well!) and the shoes, the more I like it.
Olive green is hard to wear for many people, and unexpected, so I commend her for taking a risk here with the color, while keeping the overall silhouette clean and sleek. I also noticed the matching gloves, which look pretty too!
Lauri says
Olive green is one of my favorite colors for a neutral accessory and I do have one long sweater in that color but I don’t think an all over olive green outfit would work for me. I’m really hoping to see this entire outfit again, especially the ponytail, in the fall.
I so agree that the side slant of her hat is perfect for her face and I’m sooo glad that she didn’t indulge by wearing a fascinator.
Jules says
Love the look but not the color. She clashed with Harry’s tie. I guess she didn’t get the wear blue memo.
Amy Bee says
Why does she have match with harry’s tie? That’s quite restrictive.
Lauri says
I think that Harry should have planned his suit and tie to compliment Meghan’s outfit, not the other way around.
Kathy says
I looove the cut of the dress. I think I really like the colour too. Though it may have more of an autumnal feel. I think if the hat had been smaller, not so much on the face, it would have been better.
OG SG says
I like it (although agreed that the gloves are weird). I am not a big fan of all the white and pale blue and ivory shades worn to christenings (or in general) so I don’t care that her color doesn’t “fit” in with that.
I guess Harry coordinated with William instead of Meghan today since they are basically wearing the same outfit, lol.
Crenshaw Resident says
Lovely dress and accessories. Meghan looks like a modern day Grace Kelly in this set. Gorgeous.
Tecla says
I don’t like the color.
lawmom says
I don’t mind the color – it’s neutral but interesting and looks great on her. The seam above the belt is a bit weird.
I don’t LOVE that everything is the same color – hat, dress, shoes, clutch, gloves. If just one of those things could have been a color other than olive green, it would have elevated the outfit. Maybe those rust Jimmy Choos she wore when she was engaged?
Laura B. says
I wish there were some good pics of her hair styling. It appears to maybe be a low sleek ponytail which would be a first! And I think it would be quite modern and chic!
Lauri says
the last photo here shows her hair styling pretty well.

Kathy says
I love that hair style, a great combo with the dress. Elegant and modern! (It makes me think even more that the hat is too big)
Deborah Lorenzen says
Olive drab, drab head to toe? This is a difficult color to wear and looks better on blondes (sorry). The gloves are they suede? Really? So 1950s! Don’t know if carrying gloves is a retro thing or what? I like the overall all idea of the outfit but the color is just a no for me. Harry’s blue suit and turquoise tie, I didn’t care for that combo.
Est1996 says
I will put my comment here since MadAboutMeghan is full of sycophants who won’t publish anything that’s even slightly critical of Meghan. This outfit was quite drab and dull in comparison to the yellow dress she wore the other day. Boring and underwhelming.
Kat says
Love this monochrome look and color on Meghan! Her hat with the low ponytail and gloves very chic.
SSM says
Love it. It’s an unexpected color for summer, but I don’t necessarily believe there’s a color or style code for every type of event and she looks great in it. If it had been a neutral we’d have to scroll through 80 comments about how she never wears color. I feel like I should hate that she’s carrying gloves – for what purpose could she possibly use them?? But I don’t hate it, it looks like a cool 80s working woman flare and I’m digging it. Why don’t I hate it?!
Tara says
While I’m not a fan of olive green in general, Meghan looks beautiful in this color! It works so well with her skin tone. I LOVE the dress and hat, but the color does seem like something to be worn in early fall. She definitely looked more modern and glamorous than the other guests but didn’t outshine the Duchess of Cambridge. All in all, a success!
Karen says
I thought she knocked it out of the park. The olive color suits her complexion perfectly. I think she looks absolutely flawless. She is developing a sleek and chic style. Personally I’m tired of seeing all the pastels and think poor Pippa looks dreadful. And again, I love that she has ditched the messy bun. I thought the hat was also inspired as you can see through it. Kate is always lovely. Her hat was an interesting departure, and probably quite comfortable as hats go. I think she pulls it off. Thanks for such gorgeous photos!
Mettie says
Loved the simplicity, style and colour. This girl is rocking her own style. Shame about the fashion police!!
Annie says
I don’t get why she never wears light blue when especially for this occasion it would have been the only appropriate colour seeing as literally everyone except for Kate and the baby was wearing blue… She acts like she doesn’t want to create controversy but then does things like this constantly and then plays dumb when she’s called out on it. She looks nice in blue like in the engagement picture with Harry that hardly anyone saw because for some reason they only posted the ones from outside even though it was the nicest picture of them…
