Today marked not only Meghan Markle’s second royal engagement of 2018 (third in total!), but her first official trip to Wales on a trip designed to “showcase Welsh culture and heritage”.

The couple began their day at Cardiff Castle, described as “one of Wales’ leading heritage attractions and a site of international significance. Located within beautiful parklands at the heart of the capital, Cardiff Castle’s walls and fairytale towers conceal 2,000 years of history.”
While at the castle, Meghan and Harry heard performances from musicians and poets. They also met with leading sportsmen and women, and saw how organisations are working to promote Welsh language and cultural identity.

Next, the couple visited StarHub, and evidenced their amazing impact in disadvantaged communities. Meghan and Harry took part in activities designed to challenge, empower and develop young people…. And Meghan played Jenga!

Meghan continued to shine in her new royal role, smiling and greeting the public gathered to meet her. The grounds to Cardiff Castle opened at 9am local time, and was certainly a long wait for some well-wishers to greet Meghan and Harry.

Meghan’s Stella McCartney coat is gorgeous, but just shy of $2000, it may not be in your budget. Here are some Mirror Meg options:
Blazer
Love Theory’s Wool Jacket that Meghan wore today, and sad it’s sold out? Reader Lauri shared that the print is called the Prince of Wales tweed- a tasteful nod to her future father-in-law! Here are some similar houndstooth inspired option MirrorMegs:

The choice of Meghan’s handbag today THRILLED us here at Meghan’s Mirror. You may recall that we predicted she would wear the brand back in December, and our very own Christine has the bag in her own closet!
DeMellier’s founder, Mireia Llusia-Lindh, shared with us that:
“We are truly honoured that Meghan is wearing one of our bags, she is a fantastic role model to women all over the world and a great addition to the Royal family”
The bag is currently available for order, with orders shipping in March.
We also provided our full commentary as an official Contributor to E! News, but one of the things that most stuck with Amanda related to Meghan’s earrings!
Meghan always likes to have one thing about her look that is different and unexpected (think a distressed denim jean at Invictus matched with perfect blowout and crisp white blouse or the frayed hem on her Joseph skirt from engagement in Nottingham.) Today I adored how she kept up that trend – and kept fashion bloggers on their toes – by choosing two different earrings!
What did you think of Meghan’s first official Welsh visit?

A stunning outfit! I love the tie-up between the silky belt and the satin sheen on her boots. I’m interested to see Meghan’s picked a shorter coat this time and I love the narrow leg on the trousers. And how very chic and understated to pick a green bag for Wales against the black outfit. Her hair looks really good up, too. Superb ID’s from Meghan’s Mirror again!!
Hi Bertie! I too am loving the narrow leg trousers with the boots, very Audrey Hepburn-ish imho. I’ve heard that Audrey Hepburn is one of Meghan’s fashion favorites so I’m not surprised to see her style her outfits in such a Hepburn-ish way.
Hi Lauri! Thanks for the heads-up on the Hepburn link 🙂
I must have this coat!!! I love how the tie cinches the waist, very flattering! Any I’m dying for this handbag and boots!! I’m going to comment again once I’ve seen her entire outfit, am hoping that she’s not wearing a black blouse again today but we’ll see.
Thanks MM for getting this post up so fast!!
I don’t like tie-belts or tassels on bags, but I still love this outfit! Meghan is approaching Brigitte Macron levels of cool here 😀
Oh I so agree about the tassels on bags, just no. While I like the idea of tie belts, in reality they just don’t work for me but I love seeing them work so well on Meghan.
She just looks so effortlessly chic all the time! I love the coat and the shoes and the hair and well, just everything. lol
The jacket description links to the handbag 😉
Thanks for the note, we were in the middle of updating the post… We’ve made the correction now! xo
I have to agree with a commenter (Michelle) on a previous post – I’m yet to be wowed by Meghan’s style. The pieces she picks are great individually (e.g. the Theory jacket) but I’m not always convinced by how everything is put together. I also find her jewelry a bit too casual for someone in her position e.g the finger rings and the earrings she wore today. It will be interesting to see how her style changes (if at all) post wedding. Who knows, we may continue to see her in ripped jeans.
I adore this outfit! The coat is gorgeous and the silky tie belt is beautiful. The key to making an all black outfit interesting is pairing different textures and tailored lines. In this case the silk texture plus the beautiful velvet boots is a genius touch.
MM will you be posting any pictures of Meghan in the Theory top?
Hi Lauri! We’re just waiting on the photos to come in through our agency. Just added a few from Kensington Palace in the meantime! xo
Oh that’s such fun we got to see what she wore underneath! There was a peek of herringbone or similar pattern from a cuff in one pic but it’s way better to see the whole garment. Clever Meghan to find a traditional fabric given a different twist!
Christine, I have to ask how big is this bag? I have to carry 2 glasses cases (plus a wallet, etc) and am worried that it might be too small.
Hi Lauri,
It’s likely not large enough for all of that… I can get my wallet, one pair of folding raybans, phone, and a few lip glosses in there. And a tiny hand lotion!
That being said… DeMellier has two other sizes of this bag that are larger!

Thanks Christine! Darn, I wish designers would start making handbags that aren’t too small but that aren’t too large either, it’s so hard to find the perfect bag 🙁
Tell us about it! We’ll keep eyeing Meghan’s choices for events to come. Check out the larger sizes, they’re great #MirrorMeg options!
I like this outfit and I in general like her casual-cool style and her jewelry choices. I love this handbag. But I am really not into this messy hair thing she has adopted for the last two outings. There are artfully messy hairdos and then there are “I just woke up and shoved my hair in band to walk the dog” hairdos. Her’s are the latter. Given that when she was snapped in Canada just running errands and stuff her hair was basically perfect, I find it odd that for these official engagements she is just sticking her hair up any which way with random pieces everywhere. I am all for not having uppity, overstyled royal hair, but there is a happy medium between that and gym hair.
I agree with you. I think her hair looks better here than on her last outing, but still could be a bit more polished.
Seeing strands of hair sticking out in all directions from her bun just made me cringe, and I am normally obsessed with her great style, hair and makeup!
I also think her hair is too casual for the event. Considering the thought and care the clothes, purse and make up took, it seems like her hair was forgotten until the last minute. Her jewelry also seems too casual but her clothes, purse and evident happiness are wonderful.
I think the casual hair and jeans on duty may be here to stay, they’re both in keeping with the times. Just this past year Brigitte Macron wore jeans for an official engagement. I don’t think we’ll see so much of starchy polished royals as time goes on and Harry and Meghan in particular may be hoping to do things differently.
I agree. I love that she will have more freedom to have a looser style than the other royals but that messy bun is messier than my messy buns! Ha ha!
I’m not a fan of the different earrings but if they catch on I will probably grow to love the look.
Love the Prince of Wales plaid (tartan?) and the Welsh designed pants. I like that she’s using her clothes to send a message of support for Wales while in Wales.
Yeah, and generally I think it is a good idea to go more casual. Being casual makes them more relatable, creates less of a divide, etc. I like the jeans, and I like the fact that she is still wearing jewelry that is not serious (although I personally am not on board with the mismatched earring trend). It is just the HAIR. She could have gone casual with a simple ponytail or even a slightly messy bun. But she is wearing bedhead, basically. Casual=good. Sloppy=not good.
Apparently her blouse print is called Prince of Wales tweed, good call Meghan, keep the FIL happy!!
Princess Meghan of Wales! she is a natural Leader, she has charisma and she is doing it fantastic. I like her. Looking forward to celebrating the royal wedding in May, very excited. She just looks beautiful.
I have to say that watching videos of her interactions with the crowds and especially with the children made what she wore or how she wore it a bit less important to me. Of course not enough to make me stop following her style 🙂
I love the look details. Is it possible to list the prices next to the items? I like knowing how much a particular item cost without having to click on all the links. I makes window shopping easier. Thanks
Hi Susan,
Great feedback! Will work on editing these and including it on future posts.
Thanks for taking the time to visit the blog!
xo
I love all of the thought that went into Meghan’s outfit today! I love the outfit (especially her shirt), and while I liked her messy bun for the last visit to the radio station, I was disappointed to see it again so soon, directly following January 9th’s visit. How beautiful would her hair have looked today half up half down, or if she wanted it out of her face in a chic braid? The messy bun is cool and she’s gorgeous no matter what, but I just like a little variety! I think the jewelry is super cool and true to who Meghan is, with her cool LA roots. For more formal affairs, she will absolutely wear the appropriate pieces. Thanks for this awesome blog, and I liked another poster’s suggestion of adding the prices directly in the post! Thanks for all of your hard work!
P.S. Did anyone else notice that it looks like Meghan added some lighter highlights to her hair?? Pretty!
Meghan seems to have a preference for really special, beautiful pieces in neutral colors. Very different than the normal royal family vibe, which frequently involves one large, bright piece with basic accessories. I love Meghan’s style, both the individual pieces and the way she puts them together, and find that she’s very stylish and ‘trendy’ but in a tasteful way. Very fun! For me, the standout here is the boot; absolutely gorgeous. Think I’ll be needing a ‘mirror meg’ though 😉
I just wondered over to the new Royal Wedding site and wow I’m loving it!!! I especially love the count-down clock and can’t wait for more wedding information!
Thanks, Lauri! We’re going to continue to update all the links and pages as we go, so check back often! xo
Hi Lauri,
Can you please give me the name of the Royal Wedding website or its URL, the one with the count down clock etc?
Many thanks
