Meghan and Harry kicked off their second day of the Royal Visit of Ireland with a meeting with President Michael Higgins at his residence Aras an Uachtarain. While there, the couple met with the President’s dogs – a highlight seen by the smiles on their faces.
Meghan and Harry went on to complete more events on their second day after a change for Meghan into a bespoke Givenchy pantsuit. All the details on that look are here.
After a stunning day of looks on the first day of the Royal Visit to Ireland – both her arrival look and garden party style won rave reviews – Meghan continued her style step up in Roland Mouret, the designer of the dress she wore the night before her wedding.
Heels: Black suede Paul Andrew “Shakti” pumps

Pinar says
I think the bag is too big for the occasion..
Deborah Lorenzen says
Looks like she’s carrying her lunch in it. Too big and ridiculous because she needs only a clutch or small purse.
Darlene Foster says
Agreed. Too big but you could fit a nice deli sandwich in it.
Smithy says
Love the earrings but not keen on the grey dress. I did hope she’d wear an Irish designer and a brighter colour for the second day but it seems not. I think sartorial diplomacy is just as important as verbal or physical diplomacy, but maybe she’ll change for some engagements.
Lisa says
Lovely dress. It’s interesting how yesterday she sort of wore a midi version of her wedding dress (albeit a different designer and color) and today a long sleeved version of her wedding eve dress. It’s almost like she’s reliving her wedding moments through her outfits – love it.
On the bag, I agree with Pinar that is too big. It draws away attention from the everything else, which is well put together.
Smithy says
Yeah, quite a lot of people were picking up on the similarities between her clothes. I don’t mind the repetitiveness but I just find it odd that people had a go at Kate for wearing a similar coat in another colour yesterday, but don’t seem to mind that Meghan keeps wearing the same neckline and similar shapes. I don’t care either way but there seems to be some strong sartorial disagreements out there in the twitter-sphere.
Lisa says
I absolutely agree that Meghan’s outfits are predictable and ‘repetitive’. Perhaps it will become less so over time.
I personally like both Duchesses along with their different styles.
Lisa says
Outfit 2 on Day 2 just popped up, ha! It’s nice to see a Duchess in a pant suit. Boxy blazers are not my thing but it works for her. I feel like this outfit has a few recycled items from her first trip with the Queen i.e the belt and clutch?
Hope everyone here is well!
Madison Mile says
Starting with the first, look. I love Roland Mouret’s dresses and think the folded fabric detail on the front of the Roland Mouret Boatneck Dress is lovely. The only thing I personally don’t like is the shade of grey. I think it’s a bit drab and doesn’t bring out her lovely skin tone. As for the bag, it’s probably not a coincidence that she’s wearing the Fendi Peekaboo Essentials bag, since they are doing a big promotion for it’s anniversary (There’s a cute social media campagin with Kim Kardashian, her daughter North and her mother Kris for the Peekaboo that I’ve seen recently). I love the bag, but I also think it is a tad big for the outfit she’s wearing.
On to the second outfit. It’ is very pretty on her and I love that she paired the jacket and pants with a nice white t-shirt and a slightly shorter jacket making a more modern statement, which suits her frame beautifully. She’s also wearing those pretty Sarah Flint pumps (plan or getting them for fall myself!) and I like that she changed the hair to the lovely, loose flowy waves with center part. Can’t wait to find out what little black clutch she’s carrying!
Imogen says
The grey dress is too tight – her strapless bra is a little too obvious!
I do wish a royal would wear flats or block heels when attending an event on grass. Meghan used to wear flats a lot before she got married.
OG SG says
Agreed on the Mouret. Usually her clothes are too big but the bodice is way too tight on that one! It is doing bad things to her chest. The suit is great though.
Amy Bee says
Had she worn flats people would have said her outfit was too casual, smh.
OG SG says
Not me…I love flats and love when she wears them because it makes me feel more on trend!
Patty says
I think Meghan is a lot shorter than most people think. (The FugGirls said they met her once and she’s about 5’4″.) So I suspect the heels are to get her closer to Harry’s height (think of all the side-by-side photos) and make her more visible to crowds. At private events, like polo matches, she has worn flats.
Tara says
Meghan is 5’7″
Darlene Foster says
Her bios say she about 5″7″ but I’ve read different from people who’ve seen her in person. I’m 5’8″ & those heels would put me on a more even level with Harry. I suspect her height was show biz stuff, she’s just so much shorter than Harry.
Laura B. says
I love that she seems to be finding outfits that are royal appropriate, but feel true to “Meghan”. I wasn’t sure about that with some of her initial royal looks. I felt like she was getting lost in royal protocol. But I haven’t seen that these last couple of days, which is exciting!
Someone else had a comment wishing she’d debut an outfit with flats. I always loved that she wore flats so often, especially since I can no longer wear heels myself. I always drew major style inspiration from her flats outfits. I hope we see some again!
She has looked absolutely gorgeous these last few days!
Danielle says
I absolutely love the gray Roland Mouret dress. It is the perfect combination of Duchess style with Meghan’s classic working woman flair. Classic, elegant and appropriate! Not to mention the gray and black look wonderful on her. Just gorgeous. Boat necks are definitely my favorite neckline! The asymmetrical hemline seems to be a favorite of hers recently (her wedding eve dress, and most recently the blush skirt suit outfit), and it really suits her – it’s probably her way of adding just a bit of fashionista edge to these beautiful pieces. What a sartorial knockout this visit has been!
Lauri says
I agree Danielle, Meghan could wear boat necklines all day long and I’d be a happy camper! In fact, I have a few in my closet and it might be time to search for a few more 🙂
Danielle says
I happened to just buy a few the other day! And I’m glad it’s “on trend” with Meghan’s wardrobe. 🙂
Leu2500 says
The pants outfit is very nice.
But the bodice on that bespoke dress is not. The way it bunches at the waist, the bodice is clearly longer than her torso. And it needed to be lined.
Laura B. says
I’m so happy to see that she’s tightened up her tailoring as well. The pieces she’s worn the last few days have fit like a glove!
Not 21 says
Love seeing all the different perspectives on Meghan’s wardrobe choices. I noted that commentary has died down on Meghan’s wearing hose – although she appears to be wearing hosiery in complementary tones for all these official events. Although that gets criticism for its lack of “modernity”, I actually think it looks great, very polished. In fact, can we all acknowledge, MOST women’s legs (after age 21!) look better in a super-sheer hose like Wolford’s Naked 8’s. I hope Meghan and Kate manage to bring them back. (Bring on the comments!)
Lauri says
Hi Not 21! I actually thought Meghan didn’t wear hose for both visits yesterday. I don’t have anything against wearing hose in the fall/winter but gosh they are just too hot for the summer.
Darlene Foster says
Agreed. Too hot in summer but I understand the need to look professional and put together at certain events. I thought the hose she wore at Prince Charles’ birthday party went just fine with her outfit and color scheme but she got trashed for it. I wear them when appropriate too. It’s just all about personal preference.
Amy Bee says
It would seem that Meghan only wears panty-hose when she’s events with the queen or at Buckingham Palace. I’m not a fan. It’s very old-fashioned but I’m not going to condemn her for wearing them, she’s following the dictates of the queen. It is perhaps a good compromise to make given that she is going to be able to work on the causes that are important to her.
Darcy says
I am absolutely delighted with the pants suit! The first piece by Givenchy that is truly gorgeous and fits ideally. We have already seen Meghan in black suit by Alexander McQueen, now I look forward to seeing Meghan wear more suits in different colors.
I am not sure about Roland Mouret dress though… it seems to fit badly in the upper part. Now I see from photos that the navy dress from the day before the wedding also had that problem, but due to darker color it was not so obvious and I didn’t pay any attention to it. Maybe the bra was different too.
To sum up, I find Meghan’s working wardrobe excellent, it’s great that she doesn’t try to look festive and chooses muted and dark colors. Variety (suits, dresses, separates, coats, handbags) is also pleasing. Can’t resist some comparison between two duchesses: by now, I think that Meghan does everyday, working wardrobe better, but Kate is the winner when it comes to evening dresses.
Lauri says
Good morning everyone!!! Thanks MM for getting these posts up so fast, I bet you’re glad that this is a short tour!
I love, love this Roland Mouret dress! The color and cut really work well for Meghan and the drape in the front adds some nice visual interest. I do have to say that I’d prefer not to see the outline of her bra quite so clearly but strapless bras fit so darn tight I guess it’s inevitable. Wow her posture is spectacular, I’m finding myself sitting up much straighter as I’m typing 🙂
I’m really please with her second outfit today and am thrilled that I have very similar pieces in my closet and will be wearing them as soon as it cools down a bit.
While this was a short tour it’s provided me with lots of fashion inspiration that I look forward to putting into practice. I hope we see her at Wimbledon tomorrow but am definitely looking forward to next Tuesday’s engagement. Quick question, have we heard anything about when she’ll be announcing her patronages?
Lisa says
I’ve been wondering if she’ll show up to support Serena. Also wondering if the Duchess of Cambridge will attend as the patron. I would love for them to show up together but something tells me that likely won’t happen…lol.
Lauri says
You must be a mind reader Lisa, I was just wondering the same thing although the DoC usually watches the men’s finals so she might not make it to the ladies finals but I sure hope Meghan does. I would like to think that if Meghan doesn’t that she’ll still be cheering on her friend through some type of electronic media.
hjm46 says
Don’t two completely separate looks warrant two separate posts?
lawmom says
I like the Roland Mouret dress (it is right up my alley), but the bra is dreadful.
Nancy says
I think this outfit is very dignified and appropriate for a meeting with the President (she looks great as always). It’s just REALLY unfortunate that her undergarments are letting her down as you can clearly see the outline of her strapless bra.
Darlene Foster says
Do you think it was a bra or something built in? For all that money she should get a little support too. I’m also if the opinion that something is off about the top. She doesn’t have large breast so being too tight shouldn’t be a problem but it’s happened.
Amy Bee says
I think Meghan’s outfits were great. Very chic and professional. She will never satisfy everyone and I’m glad that she’s sticking to what she likes, what looks good on her and not bowing to pressure to what her critics and courtiers say.
Lisa says
I was so intrigued by your last statement. Can you share what the courtiers have said? You seem to have info that they are pressuring Meghan to dress a certain way. Are you a palace insider or connected to someone on the inside?
Amy Bee says
I have no information. I’m just a regular person. But someone definitely told her she had to wear panty-hose in the presence of the queen. She had to close down her social media accounts. I think people in the palace would have told her to do that. I do think that closing them down was a good move btw, given the media’s behaviour towards her. But her page on the royal family’s website is a clear indication, to me, that she was allowed to follow her interests in exchange for certain compromises.
Lisa says
Ah ok ?. Makes sense. I could never do pantyhose, spanx are bad enough.

Bit of a miss today with the strapless bra lines showing, the fold is just a little large for her frame, and as noted the bag is huge. But “A” for effort. It’s interesting to see the style evolution. All in all she is figuring out the styles that work for the job and suit her. As for the more casual look ,I think these occasions on grass are where Kate found her wedges work well . Meghan will no doubt find something that works well
Crystal says
I agree the top bodice portion of the dress is way too tight. When the seams of your undergarment are fighting to be seen, you need more room or a size up. Otherwise love the look/style. Her looks have been great (minus the frumpy dress she wore to Harry’s cousin’s wedding). One pet peeve, can she please wear shoes that fit!!! I’ve seen her in videos walking like she is struggling to keep them on, or in pain.
Brianne says
I love the black pantsuit any break from the boat-neck collars is a win in my book. In that regard, I’ve noticed that the boat-neck lines require a strapless bra which, for example in the Mouret and past dresses, along with the darting/seems causes an awkward silhouette.
Deborah Lorenzen says
The bra showing through the gray dress is really dreadful. Meghan has access to the best of the best and this dress required a different type of foundation. Didn’t anyone catch this before she went out in public? It seems that many of her dresses fit oddly in the bust area. The black suit is nice but kind of boring, black suit white shell. It does look silly when celebs walk through grassy fields in stilettos. A block heel or wedge would be easier to walk in and just as stylish. She’s trying to find a style for her new position in life. She has developed some hattitude as far as her fascinator game. That is definitely the headgear for her!
Darlene Foster says
I found a Trina Turk V-neck dress in a Nordstrom’s Rack sale e-mail. No sleeve V-neck in blue only for $129.97. The front asymmetrical ruffle overlay is the only resemblance to the Roland Mouret dress but it’s close if you just want something in that style.
