Today, Meghan visited another one of her newly-announced patronages, the Association of Commonwealth Universities. Meghan previously – privately – visited the organization in early December. Today, she visited the City University of London to learn more about their work in higher education.
Meghan met with students, professors and the organization’s staff to learn more about their 500-strong network of universities.
Meghan chose a very chic all-black ensemble for today’s visit. The whimsical pleated skirt added lightness to the structured Givenchy coat, creating a balanced look. Meghan lightened the look with a nude shoe to break up the black. Meghan literally topped off her look with a girly top knot – we love a good top knot, so this hairstyle was a hit for us! This is the second time in two days that Meghan has debuted a new updo hairstyle, straying from her usual messy-bun look into something different.

Love Meghan’s look today? We asked the team to come up with some of their favourite #MirrorMeg options:
And if you have always wondered what mints Meghan used… You’re in luck! We spotted Smint’s mints in the door of her car as she arrived this morning.
What did you think of Meghan’s look for her visit to the City University of London? Did you love that top knot?

Duchess Meghan looks so pretty today! The Givenchy coat is beautiful, so I’m glad she’s found a way to repurpose it with the top and pleated skirt.
The nude heels are a nice touch, although I’m sure so people might have wanted a more bold/bright choice to break up the black. The pleats on the skirt flatter her as well.
And of course, the hair! I love a high bun, and this is a look that Meghan in the past has not worn very often. It looks very pretty on her. For those that might comment that the bun is not “neat”, please remember, as I mentioned last year on this blog, she has naturally very curly hair that is straightened, and sometimes with weather, etc. the hair will not always lay as flat as someone with naturally straight hair. All in all a another beautiful look!

Oh I love it! The handkerchief hem on that skirt is a fun change for her, and the top knot is adorable! I watched a video of her arrival, and the enthusiastic cheers from the onlooking students were so great. Bravo DoS!
Also, I think I might have to break down and get the earrings she’s wearing today. She’s debuted those several times recently and they are so pretty!
OG SG says
If anyone is looking for a budget friendly version of the earrings, Gorjana makes a pair with various gemstones. There is not one that is an exact match for the color, but I got a pair in howlite from Bloomingdales.com that I am quite happy with!
Laura B. says
Oh good to know! Thank you!

I love the topnot… I wish mine was that full! The black ensemble is chic but I will forever hate plain nude pumps, sigh.
In looking at all the photos of the event I was disappointed to see she wore her coat indoors. Partly because I want to see the outfit, and because I was always taught it is rude to keep it on, like you are counting the seconds til you can leave. Kate does this a lot and it is my pet peeve. I hope she doesn’t get in that habit!
Danielle says
I read somewhere that the Royal Family doesn’t often remove their coat – or isn’t photographed doing so – because it’s seen as inappropriate, like undressing. I’m not sure how true that is. But it explains many coat dresses. And perhaps there wasn’t a chance to remove it? I think I’ve only seen one video of Meghan putting a coat back in. Just an interesting thought! I wonder if anyone else has read this.
Pam says
It seems I have read something along those lines as well. A “coat protocol” if you will.
OG SG says
I have read that, too, but it has never been verified and I think people have just speculated that there is one to explain why Kate often wears a coat indoors. But based on the fact that Kate does remove her coat sometimes, and Meghan usually does, and other senior royals do, I think that it is not true. I’ll give Meghan a pass on this one because she usually takes it off and maybe this was just a walk through 🙂 As long as it isn’t a habit…the other day Kate was drinking tea AND giving a speech while wearing her winter coat and it was so bizarre.

I wonder if she has a hairpiece added to make her bun so full. If you look at the picture when she was out to lunch with her aide last week, you see only a small, fairly thin ponytail….not enough to make up this full bun. Liked the style on her though.
Raya says
I think she definitely used a donut (not sure of the official name for this hairpiece) to make the bun look full and neat.
Pam says
I think it’s a nice outfit, but it’s hard to tell. I wish the coat was a bit longer because of the dress’s asymmetrical hem, but I do love the coat. Although black is certainly very chic, I thought the Royals were supposed to save that for funerals? Anyway, I love her hair–this is so much better than her messy bun look. Very sophisticated. I think the nude heels were a smart choice with the all black ensemble so the leg length wouldn’t be broken up. All in all, nice, but not spectacular.

Great skirt! This looks to me like the Camilla and Marc Lacee Midi Skirt which is sadly sold out everywhere I look!
MB says
*looks like. I don’t think this is the exact skit she wore!
Shersha says
Another gorgeous elegant look from the Duchess. The hem of the skirt is so pretty and feminine against the structured jacket. It is wonderful to see her experimenting with different hairstyles and as someone who is still trying to perfect her topnot, I need to know how Meghan achieved this smooth polished look! You are right Madison, as someone with exactly the same hair texture as Meghan, curly hair can sometimes be challenging but nevertheless I still love it. Beyond the beautiful outside, I love how Meghan’s beautiful inside keeps shining through in her continuing support of women, children, access to education and overall human and animal well being.
Catherine says
Givenchy have confirmed that she is wearing a black wool crepe cape coat, matching dress with pleated Georgette silk skirt.

The Duchess looks lovely today. I like the coat, it is a little different, Love her hair in a bun , you can see her pretty face so much better. Not a fan of the skirt but that is personal preference. She is doing so well. Bless her.
Gigi says
Oh Meghan. Sure, she’s an attractive woman, but her look is mostly a miss for me nowadays in the sense of it mostly being ill fitting or a poor choice for the occasion, Someone find her a good stylist! While this might be a pretty outfit underneath this ill fitting coat (look at the shoulders) it’s not appropriate for a daytime visit to a university. I do love those earrings though (always a fan of M’s jewels)!
Julie says
I agree with this. I wouldn’t have thought it possible to spend so much money on a wardrobe this blah.
Another day, another boring, ill-fitting outfit with a pair of nude pumps. Sigh.
Deborah A. Lorenzen says
I like the hairdo, but I agree with Julie; I can’t ooh and ahh over this outfit, Sorry, the length of the coat clashes with the uneven pleated skirt of the dress and all black just looks like she’s going to a funeral. The nude pumps are bland. Maybe a bold pin or brooch on the coat! Her “teensy tiny” jewelry is overwhelmed by this austere attire. This is a miss for me.
