The announcement that we have all been waiting for is FINALLY here – Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are engaged!
The couple have made their engagement formal, with an announcement coming this morning from Clarence House on behalf of His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales (Prince Charles), Prince Harry’s father.
Quick Recap: The couple was engaged earlier this month in London and they will live in Nottingham Cottage at Kensington Palace, with a wedding in Spring of 2018. Harry also asked Meghan’s parents for permission before the proposal, with a statement also being released by Meghan’s parents indicating how excited they were about the engagement.
The interview of the couple was absolutely delightful – here it is if you weren’t able to check it out live.
- Meghan and Harry were roasting a chicken when he proposed, about 18 months after they first met.
- About the proposal, Meghan says: “It was so sweet and natural and romantic, he got on one knee… As a matter of fact I wouldn’t let him finish his sentence!”
- Meghan says her newly-public life is a big change from her “quiet life,” and she has chosen to avoid reading any press around her.
- Harry says he fell in love with Meghan “incredibly quickly” and described her as a “beautiful woman who literally tripped and fell into my life”
- Meghan says she will focus even more energy on the causes she has already worked on in her new role as a royal.
- Harry says that Catherine has been a huge support in his and Meghan’s relationship.
- Meghan says one of her rescue dogs is already in the UK, the other is currently staying with friends.
The following day, an official press release was sent to members of the media with more details on the wedding. The wedding will take place in May 2018 at St. George’s Chapel, Windsor Castle.
The couple hope to share the day with friends, family, and the public (yay!). Additional details will be announced in due course.
Shoes: Aquazzura Matilde Crisscross Pumps
Coat: The Line White Mara Trench
Ring: Cleave and Company, Prince Harry designed the ring with one stone coming from Botswana (remember the couple’s recent holiday) and two diamonds from Diana’s personal collection.
Earrings: Les Plaisirs de Birks Yellow Gold and Opal Earrings
For those who may be new to the Meghan Markle/Prince Harry relationship (Hello! Welcome!), the couple met in the summer of 2016, with Meghan having been pictured at various events in London that summer, including Wimbledon. (You can get the details on her sunglasses from that great look here)
Since that time, speculation only increased about their relationship with an unprecedented statement from Kensington Palace asking for the Press to respect Meghan’s privacy leading to the couple’s first “engagement” together at the Invictus Games in Toronto this summer. (You can get details on all of those looks here)
We, for one, could not be more excited about the announcement and the tremendous excitement that will lead up to the ROYAL WEDDING – and yes, we can all freak out about it now – soon. (You can read all about our speculation on Meghan’s wedding dress here)
We can not wait to hear our thoughts. What do you think about the engagement? What did you think about her look? Do you think being a member of the British Royal Family will change Meghan? Share below!

Congratulations to the happy couple – and congratulations to Megan’s Mirror for not running with any of the enagagement-will-be-tomorrow rumours!
Hope I’m not going to be out of sync here but just wanted to say I wish a second wedding like this for Meghan might NOT mean another white meringue dress. It’s a great opportunity to do something a bit different like the floral Erdem gown Meghan wore to Harry’s pal wedding.
The very smartest second weddings see the bride in a chic suit I think, though that’s unlikely here. I could see something midi-hi-low like the dress she wore to Harry’s polo match though
I also hope it’s not a big televised event and they can make their vows in privacy, at St George’s Chapel, Windsor for instance.
But I know the pressure is on them to deliver the fairy tale dream and conventions may well prevail.

Thank you, Bertie!! Just waiting for the (sure to be) amazing dress and ring to come out at the photocall. We can’t wait for the ROYAL WEDDING!
Lauri says
Lol Bertie, you and I have very different views of how we hope the dress and wedding will play out! I think these different views are what make royal watching and fashion talk so much fun.
I do agree though that Meghan shouldn’t wear a big, meringue dress but only because it’s not her style. I would love to see her in a sleek, ivory gown similar perhaps to CP MM from Norway’s dress. And of course, she must wear a tiara!
I was a second time bride myself and wore a peach/ivory gown, only because it looked great on me. Our wedding was my husband’s first and he really wanted the whole “wedding” thing so that’s what we did. Perhaps Harry will want the same thing as well, I guess only time will tell.
I look forward to reading your views on the wedding, dress, etc as time goes on.
Bertie says
Thank you for commenting and for being so nice about my strange views! I think you’re bang on the mark with something sleek and ivory, softer tones like that are more flattering for most of us though Meghan’s complexion is more than equal to a bright white as she’s shown today.
I must admit I can’t imagine quite what she might wear on her head. She’s so different and street-wise about much of what she wears I find it difficult to see her going the full veil and tiara. But I’m more than happy to be proved completely wrong!
Today was interesting in that the coat was a classic style and very much in royal mode, but those shoes packed a sneaky riposte to all that formality. Such wicked heels and barely-there sexy straps. And how for goodness sake can she move soo gracefully in them? Definitely a princess in the making 😀
Lauri says
Mmmmm, what tiara should she wear? Mmmm, personally I’d love to see the Swarthmore Floral Tiara come out of hiding and given Meghan’s love of flowers it could be a wonderful choice, however as I recall this tiara is rather old and not in very good shape so maybe not. Now if a tiara was made for her (like the one made for Sophie and Fergie) I think a bandeau style would be perfect! I’m actually thinking of the Dutch Bandeau Tiara which is beyond stunning! Or the Daisy Bandeau Tiara CP MM of Norway wore on her wedding day, either way I think a bandeau style would serve Meghan’s style very well. As to a veil, I don’t see her wearing a veil like Kate’s which hung down in the front but rather a veil that would only hang down the back, attached to her marvelous, slightly undone up-do.
I loved the heels too! I’m hoping that her shoe game will continue after the wedding and that she doesn’t start with the boring pumps that other royal ladies wear.
I think that since we have differing opinions, we are going to have a great time bouncing fashion ideas around!
Below are links for the Dutch Bandaeu Tiara and the Norway Daisy Tiara, both very similar in style but with some unique differences.

I am so impressed at your knowledge of the royal tiaras of Europe! I’d agree that the bandeau style would likely suit Meghan very well. I must confess I thought at first that a bandeau style would be one worn across the forehead as Diana once did with a necklace — that’s something I could definitely see Meghan doing. But these head-band styles are probably best with a veil. When I first saw Kate’s wedding one I was a little disappointed it wasn’t more bold but have since come to realise how much better it worked with the beautiful fabric of her veil, something large and spiky could have done serious damage to the fabric. Diana managed a bigger one for her marriage because it was set against the stiffer tulle. At the same time, I still have trouble imagining Meghan in a veil at all, maybe I’m just conditioned by all those smart work outfits she wore for Suits. I’m very happy to come here to be educated in these matters!
Lauri says
Awww thanks Bertie!! The Royal Order of Sartorial Splendor is a great site that features tiaras, jewels, royal engagement rings, etc. If you’re interested in that I would suggest that site.
I think a veil that is attached to the back of her hair, not hanging down in front, could look fabulous.
If you get chance check out CP Mette-Marit of Norway’s wedding dress and veil. I admit that it’s one of my favorite wedding dresses of all time and the sleek lines of this dress would look stunning on Meghan
Bertie says
Hi Lauri I hope you can see this reply as these comments are getting awful thin on the phone screen! I know about ROSS and HM’s Jewel Vault but rarely get the time to search through them. Agree with you that a veil fixed to the back of her hair would be a neat solution. I’m not sure how sleek a dress she might go for, I can only think of her devising some way of adding edge as she does with most outfits. But hard to say when she’s faced with a super-formal all-Royal event. My own favourite dress remains Kate’s as it was so spot-on choice for historic occasion and venue though maybe Meghan might go for something more like Pippa’s gown, another great pick.
I’m still struggling to accept that Meghan has to come up with the all-white frou-frou: I think I want her to turn up in scarlet, perhaps, like an 18th century riding outfit with fitted jacket and neat trilby hat with modest mesh veil over the eyes?!
BTW has anyone else seen the EPIC shout-out for Meghan’s Mirror from no less than the New York Times??!! Class act, or what?!!!

Just wanted to say the coat is from MAX MARA (Messi wool coat), not The Line.
christine says
Thanks for your comment! An official press release from the palace was sent out stating the coat was from The Line, but the Max Mara coat is a great lookalike!

What about her earrings? Apparently they’re Birks?

Hi J – the post is updated with the earrings, they are from Birks!

Congratulations to the most beautiful couple!

Congratulations to Harry and Meghan!!!
I’m loving Meghan’s look here today and I can’t wait to get a better look at the dress later! I found it cute that she appeared to be standing on her tippy toes as Harry is so much taller than her.
Gosh, the ring is just gorgeous! And very similar in style to the Queen’s own engagement ring. I love the sentimentality of the stones but am glad that Harry designed it in such a way as to make it Meghan’s own. I hate to say it but I was never thrilled that William gave Kate Diana’s engagement ring as I think that ring should symbolize the couple themselves.
As Meghan joins the royal family, I hope that she will be able to continue to champion causes that are close to her heart and I expect she will join Harry in championing causes affecting soldiers. Style wise, I think Meghan’s style will fit in very well with royal protocol and that she’ll be able to retain her own sense of style moving forward.
Oh my goodness, I’m just so excited and happy for them both!!! And am really looking forward to continued great fashion coverage here at Meghan’s Mirror! You better get some rest MM as the next few months at least are going to be crazy!!
Bertie says
The ring is heavenly and I also prefer it to the sapphire ring which is such a tie when you want to wear colours from a different palate. But it’s touching how both princes have made such an effort to include their mother and I’ve come to accept their choices because of that. I found it much easier after the programmes they did about their mum this summer.
Bertie says
Oh, well done, Bertie. That should be palette as in painting not the kind you eat 🙁

You are so sweet, thank you. The excitement is fuelling us today!

I so agree with much of your comments. Like some, I too am worried, that Meghan may succumb to the frumpiness uniform that overcomes many Royal Ladies after a while. Apart from not too much cleavage and not too short, which rules apply to any one with a sense of decency, the Royal Ladies are free to express their individuality to a certain degree. The Late Diana, Princess of Wales, when first she became Royal, was swamped it seems, but ultimately found her way and style and at times wore some stunning and suitable outfits. To my mind The Duchess of Cambridge has either lost her way or not yet found it and is still searching and sometimes her outfits etc are a hit, but mostly a miss. There is an interesting article today Wednesday 29November2017 in The Daily Telegraph on page 29, which is a good read, “Why Meghan must be allowed to thrive”. There is too a picture of her wearing “that” Red Dress and looking stunning, implying more like this, please! She has had to give up her Charitable endeavours in favour of those under the Royal Family’s umbrella which means she will be steered away from any verging on the political, but at least her platform will be wide and I can hardly wait to see her spreading her wings with Prince Harry. I enjoyed their interview which revealed a touching sensitivity between them, great charm and how determined to be a strong team in seeking to help others. They are going to be a powerful and admirable partnership that will increase the popularity of the British Royal Family.
I hope Meghan makes full use of The Crown Jewels on her wedding day with a traditional but sleek fitting gown, veil and tiara. We won’t see a balcony kiss but there will be (at least in the past that was the case) a carriage ride through the streets after the ceremony so that the public will have a closer look. Therefore I hope the wedding will be on a Bank Holiday allowing everyone the ability to attend at Windsor Castle, which is where Royal weddings used to take place in that charming venue. Both Harry and Meghan has an affinity for Windsor and have also taken into consideration the ages of Prince Philip and The Queen both of whom would find it easier as well as it being one of their favourite palaces. It is a smaller venue at St George’s Chapel, but the setting is stupendously fabulous and the pictures and scenery should be wonderfully glorious. I can hardly wait. As for her style, can you imagine how more gorgeous Meghan’s wardrobe will become once she is given a marvellous allowance from The Duchy of Cornwall and her intelligence and charm will make her extremely popular.
Meghan’s Mirror keep up the good work, although this site is costing me a small fortune each time my daughter sees the items.
Lauri says
Hi Patricia! I have high hopes that since Meghan is coming into the royal family with her sense of style already firmly in place that she will not “succumb to the frumpiness uniform” lol but I’m really looking forward to seeing to what marvelous fashion treasures she has in store for us!
My husband is saying the same thing! I’ve already gotten a few pieces that Meghan has (one piece that was totally a happy coincidence) and I’m very happy with them.

Were you a fan of Suits? I admit I’ve never watched the show, so had no idea who Meghan was but I’m sure a fan now!

I was! I absolutely love it. Harvey is my ultimate man crush hahaha. I’d definitely recommend watching it if you’re looking for a new show to watch!

I’m so excited about Meghan and Harry’s first engagement on Friday!! I can’t wait to see what she’ll wear!
Does anyone have any ideas as to whether or not Harry will wear a wedding ring? I think most of the men in the family wear their wedding rings on their pinkies (except William who doesn’t wear one at all) but Harry strikes me a the sentimental type who just might want to wear a traditional wedding ring.
Tecla says
YAY!!! She looked beautiful and natural and she and Harry looks so in love and happy!!
Tecla says
Also I hope Meghan doesn’t change her style. I’m sorry but Kate Middleton’s style is non existent. She dresses like a grandma.

I don’t have words to express my joy. God bless and protect this wonderful royal couple. Meghan is the people Princess, a real modern princess in a true fairy tale, love from the heaven.
Well done Prince Harry! The whole world is celebrating the happy news, the wedding will be a special occasion for the world, letting people celebrate together with the most graceful royal couple. Just amazing.
PM Theresa may should declare the royal wedding day a celebration day in UK.
Patricia Wellington says
Ditto, Jill Hillers. Let’s hope the wedding takes place on a Bank Holiday. Monday 7th May and Monday 28th May are holidays in the UK, however, before then we have the Christmas and New Year Holidays when, if the reports are accurate, Meghan will be spending the season with the Queen and other members of the Royal Family at Sandringham House in Norfolk. So, we will have the usual walk-about to and from Church on 25th December as well as during the New Year. I am pretty sure the Queen sees Meghan as a real asset to the firm and wll want her among them as often as possible. I have never seen Prince Harry looking so happy and, for me, they are the ‘A Team’. Yes, Prince William is the older brother and Prince Charles’ Heir, but much more impressive is the impact Prince Harry has had and will have across the globe and, with Meghan by his side, there will be from them both genuine interest and effective support for all kinds of causes globally. And to think that not so long ago an insecure Meghan at an audition was being told by the Casting Director, April Webster, that she Meghan was more than good enough; and now, she has that experience of her journey to this point, in order to help legions around the world.
Another point about the wedding and supporters of the Bride and Groom: Prince William The Duke of Cambridge is likely to be Prince Harry’s Support (in the Royal Family there is no “Best Man”). Meghan could have any number of Bridesmaid/Page Boys either from within the Royal Family or without. I read somewhere that Catherine could not (be a Matron of Honour) because of her position as a future Queen Consort, but that statement is inaccurate nonsense. Our present Queen as Princess Elizabeth and Heir to The Throne as Queen Regnant no less (i.e. the future Monarch/Ruler as opposed to Queen Consort as Camilla or Catherine would become) had acted as a bridesmaid in the past. It is unlikely however that Catherine would be Matron of Honour because even though she and Meghan have a friendly relationship, I doubt they are as yet bosom buddies, but I could be mistaken. One does not hear talk of the Princesses of York in any way favourably by the media, but I read also that they (Beatrice and Eugenie) are on excellent terms with Prince Harry and Meghan and that, apparently, one of the York sisters knew Meghan through mutual friends and was involved in Harry/Meghan’s meeting. So one of them could act as a bridesmaid/page boy together with anyone or more of the other grand/older great grandchildren of the Queen, eg. Lady Louise Windsor and her brother Viscount Severn (the children of Prince Edward The Earl of Wessex)/Savannah and Isla Phillips, Prince George and Princess Charlotte of Cambridge and Mia Tindall; and then there are those from without the Royal Family.
Then there will be the choice of gown and going-away outfit chosen by Meghan, who I hope will take full advantage of the Crown Jewels at their disposal; the carriage ride through the streets giving the public a close-up glimpse, especially since Prince Harry has declared his wish to involve the public as much as possible. We may not get the iconic balcony kiss but the intimate views of the couple will more than make up for it.
There is so much to which to look forward and I can hardly wait for 2018 to begin as a result and announcement of their first overseas tour. It’s mind boggling the anticipation of seeing this Royal Couple excelling on the world stage to the benefit of others.
I only hope that they enjoy the same generous allowance as the Cambridges do from The Duchy of Cornwall, otherwise this couple will be heavily disadvantaged in resources to help them fulfil their roles.
Thank you Meghan’s Mirror for keeping us fans informed and connected.
